I can't tell you how many good pinches I got from traffic stops for minor moving and equipment violations.

I got a "no front plate" ticket in Nebraska. I guess he couldn't get me for speeding (THANK YOU radar detector!!!!!!!) so he had to get me for something.

He passed me, fell back and lit me up. As he was walking up to the passenger window I heard on his radio "affirmative California." Then he wrote me the fix-it-ticket.

Getting it signed-off was humorous. We were visiting our son in Santa Cruz and his apartment was across from a park. There were 3 local constabulary hanging out at the park so I went over to ask one of them to sign-off on the ticket (the NE trooper checked the box for "no rear plate" on the ticket). One of them asked why I just stay away from Nebraska, one mentioned it was ticky-tack and the 3rd signed it off. I did learn that in the PRK the front plate has to be affixed to the bumper and just propped-up in the windshield isn't good enough.

I drive a stretch of road that transitions from 50 to 40 mph. The 40mph sign has been missing for months. If I continue at 50mph until the next sign, will I get a ticket in that zone?

You might, but you'd also have a case for dismissal since there is no posted speed limit [when there should be] and it's the government's responsibility to make sure such things are posted (…and unobstructed). If I were you, I would take a photograph of the area with the missing/damaged sign and keep it readily available for when you need it.

The front plate has to be affixed to the bumper. I like the tow hitch mounts. Easy removal.

…..yes, I sometimes stop people because their vehicle lacks a front plate……but, no, I don't stop people because their vehicle lacks a front plate. In other words, the impetus for the stop isn't simply for that reason; it's merely my legal justification for the stop. I could truly care less. I'm usually looking for something more.

I'd say if you're Spidey Senses are tingling.....but a copper I know got into shit for saying that while giving his evidence rather than articulating his grounds and a gun/drug case got tossed for it.

Yeah, unfortunately our experience articulated using that verbiage doesn't fly. People who aren't working in the field (…and who generally lack social/situational awareness) just won't/don't get it.

Thanks brother. I appreciate the support. I'm admittedly dreading the end of vacation - and the subsequent return to work tomorrow - but I'm already planning a Santa Barbara road trip in August and a winter cabin/snowboard trip in Nov/Dec. Looking forward to being off of work is the only thing that gets me through the work day.
