Help diagnosing a new crunching noise
The saga continues!
In the past, I've made several posts about a clunking from the front end when going over bumps, expansion joints, manhole covers, etc. After upgrading to: - F8X LCAs - replacing the thrust arms with TRW units - replacing my Vroshlag camber plates/KW V3's with Bilstein B14 coils - Installing new top mounts - And replacing the tie rods, the noise disappeared. Now, a few months later, there's a new noise. It sounds like a crunching noise and happens when going over minor road imperfections. More precisely, it's a crunch in combination with a minor thud. I noticed that when my car is stationary and I turn the steering approximately 15 degrees in both directions, there is an audible clunking noise. This also happens when depressing the brake pedal so the pads are held in place. ThyssenKrupp, the manufacturer of our steering rack, makes a repair kit for something called a "thrust piece" Does anyone know if this is the source of the noise? It appears there are a few videos and posts about this but wanted to check with you all before I order the kit and the necessary wrench. I figure that since I replaced literally everything on the front suspension, it must be the steering rack. Thanks! |
