2015 Maintenance is non transferable

This was started in another forum but since so many readers here are thinking about or getting 2015 2s, I thought it should be posted here as well.

http://www.bmwusa.com/ultimateservice

"For model year 2015 or later vehicles sold or leased by an authorized BMW center on or after July 1, 2014, BMW Maintenance Program coverage is provided for the exclusive benefit of the initial purchaser, owner, or lessee of a new vehicle, sales demonstrator vehicle"

I wonder if you have an extended warranty and trade the car in to a dealer with time left over can the dealer transfer it to the new owner when they sell it. I got a little more for my trade being that it had the extended warranty on it.

Guess demo vehicles can now be purchased at millions of dollars below blue book value.

So what you're trying to say is that my 2014 will be worth more than a 2015 a couple of years down the road?

I don't know but it does say that a two year old 2014 will be still under free maintenance while a two year old 2015 sitting on the lot will not be.

Is this some move to get more money from maintenance programs or a ploy to steer new car buyers toward leasing? Maybe this is just aligning with competition.

I would guess that it is a cost saving measure. It protects the original buyer who BMW is interested in but not the next because they get nothing from a used car sale.

So basically the second owner is out of luck in terms of maintenance program? So they have to opt for the extended warranty or am I misunderstanding this??

I read this as saying maintenance will be out of pocket for the second owner. Warranty coverage will continue just like before so the second owner will have the factory warranty. The only exception I see is if you transfer the car within your household. In that case, free maintenance will continue.

Of course, maybe there is some hidden fine print not seen on the website.

To date the warranty is not affected, just the free maintenance. But the warranty might be next.

So glad I bought a MY14 instead of MY15. Resale value just tanked for a MY15 if an owner decides to sell before 4yrs/50k mile.

Can't get the thing to load on my phone but what's it say about the extended maintenance coverage? I assume that would go poof as well.

I find the maintenance plan (and thus fixed cost of ownership) a great selling point and differentiator that creates stickiness. While it may not impact me as a new car lessee, I'm saddened to see them mess with it. As others have said, who knows what's next.

Bean counters crunched numbers and chose to 86 the ability to transfer the maintenance plan. Good or the bottom line. Not so good for loyal customers. Sad.

It impacts me as a lease holder since I won't have a repeat performance of my Touareg that needed brakes a month before turn in. $2,500 later (18" brembos, they did pads and rotors) some lucky son of a bitch got new ones on my dime. Never, ever again. Granted I don't give a damn if it can't be transferred, but if they get rid of it all together I'd be much less likely to get a new one when my lease is up. I'm all about knowing car is going to cost $X per month and I give it back at the end, no surprises.

At this point it does not impact warranty. So you would not get a refund.

If enough people bitch they will change the program. They changed the maintenance program at Mini several years ago when consumers became outraged. The went to a two year service and no free oil change after a year and then changed it back about 6 months later due to pissed off customers.

This change potentially just cost MY15 owners thousands of dollars.
