Exhaust tip color

I am trying to figure out if the black exhaust tip should be stainless on the inside and I have carbon build up or if the finish is coming off. Thoughts?

The tips fit over the pipes coming out of the muffler - what you're seeing is the inside of those pipes, not the inside of the tips.

Clean them with bar keepers friend and you'll find out.
