Msport and sport line package come with S840A option which I believe gets you the aux oil cooler along with higher top speed

I thought that was more tied to tire selection, I'm trying to ascertain when the extra cooling is installed.

I dont think so...a base with 18s still has 130 limit. You have to get sportline or M Sport to get 155 limit.

I also have the extra radiators on my 2014 M Sport. It came with the all season tires.

Seems like a data point outlier, speed limiter at 130 but still gets the extra cooling. Thanks for posting.

I have a 2015 228i M Sport. A buddy of mine in the area also has a 228i M Sport. Both were built in 02/15; in fact, his VIN is only 14 higher than mine, so it's very likely they were built on the same day in Leipzig.

The only mechanical difference between the two options-wise: his has the THP, and mine does not.

Both of his car's front intakes are open, and I assume he has the extra radiators. Mine only has the passenger-side intake open, which leads me to believe that my car does not have the extra radiators. I will investigate more tonight or tomorrow, but suffice it to say that this does not make me happy (though at least I know my car's that much lighter ... )

It could be that the intakes aren't tied to extra radiators; they may be for extra brake cooling, or possibly something to do with the adaptive suspension. For what it's worth, it's apparent to me that the difference is part of the THP option, at least for 2015 builds. Not sure about 2014 ones.

From those all-front-on angles, there is no way that you can tell if that car has THP. My bet it that it doesn't.

It would be greatly appreciated if you do the visual confirmations between the two builds, TIA!

Yup. I'll dig around mine tonight and ask my compatriot about his. He lurks here, and he asked me about my blocked-off intake last weekend, so he's interested, too.

See, if I'd have known that the THP included extra cooling capacity (oil or coolant), that would have tipped me over to ordering the THP on my car. In Texas, that extra capacity is a selling point ...

... and I still should have sprung for the THP, despite the extra complexity and weight. Dammitalltobavaria ...

Really strange because my non track package, 2014 Msport 228 most definitely has the extra radiator. March 2014 build

And are both intakes open on your car, tccox?

Since THP was packaged differently for many 2014 cars, is it possible the extra radiator is part of a specific element of what is now the THP? The dampers, or brakes, or variable steering?

Another (anecdotal) thought

My buddy's definitely got dual radiators; they appear to him to be for coolant, not oil. He also swears that he's seen M235s with blocked intakes -- which, if that's the case, throws a huge wrench into this issue since that car's got all the THP goodies standard.

Can anyone verify a blocked intake on an M235? Perhaps the intake design's just different on 'em because of that silver center accent?

Another possible related issue: someone in the N20 thread installed an aFe Dynamic Scoop on his 228i. It mounts behind the passenger-side kidney grille over a stock intake cutout. The guy who installed the scoop said his cutout was blocked off as stock. I've looked at mine; it is open. WTF?

FYI: I'm starting a new thread regarding the extra radiator issue. I checked out my car; I don't have it, and my buddy and I can't make heads or tails of why some cars do and some don't. This mystery may even extend to the N55/M235i.

Don't know about on an actual M235 but the part with the silver accent is completely closed on the left side
