I understand what I did was stupid, no need to make me feel any worse. This is my first ticket besides and measly accident where I rear-ended someone because the brakes on my car were not responding. 55 in a 35 is fast, but what I was trying to say is that if I was genuinely trying to race him, I would have been going a lot faster than that. I would much rather get a ticket for reckless driving for going 20 over the speed limit than a racing ticket (which I honestly don't think I deserve). I know more people are going to bash me especially after saying I don't deserve it, but you guys wouldn't understand unless it happened to you. I know for a fact that the cop didn't see much of what was happening. He was probably just out trying to meet his quota for the month. I'm not worried about paying the fine, I'm just worried about getting jail time. I'm still young and I've already put my parents through a lot of shit. I've been to jail for some shit that I didn't do for some stupid girl. My parents bailed me out for $10,000 and will not get it back till the year is over. Well it was my mom that bailed me out. My dad wanted me to stay in there. I'm just afraid that if I go back, they will not get that money back. The reason they got me this car is so I would stay out of trouble. I'm not blaming anyone but myself for my actions. I just don't want my parents to not be able to trust me more than they don't now. Yeah, you guys can bash me some more for having my parents buying me this car, but I don't really care. I have more serious things to worry about then trying to defend myself.

Yu - Get a lawyer and go over the possibility of pleading guilty with a reduction in penalty.

Sounds like the last thing your parents should of bought to "keep you out of trouble?" is a BMW.

Also - Rear ending b/c the brakes on your car were malfunctioning and going to jail for "not doing something for a stupid girl" doesn't give cause for readers to pity your cause.

IMO You're learning common sense the hard way. Not sure why I'm even posting to this thread or the other thread re drunk driving. I ususally gloss over these inane posts.

Bottom line - You own a vehicle that can accellerate to great speeds and have the short term ability to control the lives of you, your passengers, and those outside the car. Grow up and use some judgement and common sense.

Kind of OT: I remember when I was younger I used to be so pissed off at people that drove the speed limit around town. Really, who wants to take 20 minutes to go across town at 25mph? Now, 20 years later I still like speed but I now have kids of my own and I occasionaly see someone go like 60mph in my residential street where the limit is 25mph. I think that any parent on that street would be justified if they pulled out a rifle and put a bullet in that person's car. I don't think young people realize the pitfalls of speed on residential streets. I don't think any amount of explaining, pleading, persecuting will change that. I got my share of tickets when I was young. The ticketing did not change me one bit. Society has to find a different way to curb such speeding. Ticketing kids is just a tax on the parents and especially parents of male drivers.

I'm not trying to get sympathy/pity out of you guys. I was stating my past driving and jail record to explain to you guys so I could maybe find out what would happen to me. But instead you guys belittle me and judge me on what kind of person I am. You're allowed to speak your mind, but I did not make this thread for you guys that feel like making someone feel worse than they already do. I know everyone does not obey all traffic laws and to be honest I try my best to. I get remarks from my friends like "I don't want to ride with you because you drive too slow." I'm not a kind of person that likes to speed, because I know the consequences and dangers of doing so. I made one mistake, quite a huge one. I'm just trying to get some help from you guys, because I thought you guys would understand, out of anyone, my situation. But I guess I'm wrong. I could make the same remarks about you guys saying, "Guys like this give the rest of us Bimmer drivers a bad name" but I'm not going to. I'm not that kind of person that goes around judging people especially if I don't even know him/her. But explain to me what the characteristics of one that drives a Bimmer are, because I don't think criticizing someone or belittling someone classifies someone as a Bimmer driver either.

Cut YuBimmer some slack and try to help him out with advice guys, he seems remorseful and realizes he's done wrong.

My advice is the same as many here, find yourself an attorney experienced in dealing with these kinds of traffic infractions. It's amazing how much they may be able to help out in situations like this (avoid suspension, etc...). The couple/few hundred dollars you'll pay for one will be a bargain in the long run. Good luck.

1. If extremely lucky, get a ticket for speeding.
2. If lucky, 3 tickets at once. Including reckless driving, speeding, and involved in speeding competition(big points).
3. If out of your luck, your car will be impounded for 30 days, can be fine up to $5000 including possible holding-cell time for few days.
4. If you are in bad luck, your car can be permanently, yes permanently impounded, fined up to $5000 and can be sent to jail anywhere from few days to 2 years(if caught over 100mph).

Yes, there are alot of lucky cases out there, but regulation regarding
street racing in oregon is getting REALLY strict day by day since almost exactly 5 years ago.

HATE to admit it, but when I was young and dumb and out for
street racing every night, I learned my lesson the hard way.

Trust me on this. You don't want to street race in oregon.
--Show me any ORS that says your vehicle will be impounded for any time period for speed racing.

--Oregon has no points system for driving records.

--You really think you will get jail time for a traffic violation? They cite and release anything under a person crime felony in Portland due to the lack of jail space.

--Your Point number 4 doesnt have one accurate piece of information in it.

Sorry man, but your really just talking out of your ass

These are real-life stories in oregon. Obviously you are not familar
with street racing scene. I suggest you visit NWstreetracing.com
and ask people what the penalties were. And why don't you dial
911 and ask them what are some penalties you can get.

Really. Are you even involved in any street racing scene at all?
I know couple of people who went to jail for it.
And have you watched the news at all? Jesus, it was everywhere.

Sorry, you really don't know much about street racing in oregon.
Do a research next time before you put your thumbs down to somebody.

Belittle you? We don't need to belittle you, you do that enough with your own statements which prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, that you are a spectacular asshole.

In your original post, you state:

Quote:
He started driving off really fast and I tried catching up to him. At the second stop light, I try to race him again knowing I would never win.
Now, call me a moron here, but "He started driving really fast and I tried to catch up to him." sort of looks like the definition of the word racing. You basically admit as much in the second sentence; "...I tried racing him again..."

Sounds to a lot of us like you deserve a ticket for racing. Most of the advice on here seems to be that you need to man up and eat it. If you are lucky, you might actually learn a thing or two but I am thinking the statistical probability of that happening is pretty low.

I'd say if you can't afford a lawyer, at least state your case and point out the faults the cop's accusation. such as the difference in the speed limit and not having radar proof of speed. Those faults alone could probably reduce the punishment!

I never denied "racing." I just simply stated that I don't think I deserve a harsh punishment. I'm an asshole? I'm not calling you names and I refuse to do so. I'm not that kind of person. I simply made this thread to get advice from people that may actually know what may happen, not to get flamed by you or anyone else. Just because you haven't gotten caught racing or getting any other tickets doesn't make you better than everyone else. I'll admit I'm not a very lucky person. If you read all my other posts, you would know that I already feel bad about what I have done and openly admitted it was stupid of me. I would much rather you stop posting in my thread if you're going to keep insulting me. I can't stop you from doing so, but you are the one that is appearing to be the "asshole."

I don't place a lot of hope in lawyers in this sort of case. I went before a judge years ago for 90mph in a 55 (gas guzzling limit, not safety limit) and the guy in front of me was before the judge for 100mph in a 55. He had a lawyer, I did not. We both fared identically, except he ponied up $10 more, $1 for each mph over the limit faster than me, and of course lots of money for the worthless lawyer. I agree, go with humility and take your lumps.

Oh and yeah, it is stupid. My nickname for speeding tickets is the 'stupidity tax'. Sorry to say, I still pay it about every 18 months.

You know, now that I read my post again, none of them is verfiable fact.
I'll tell you this though. My post(regarding the penalties you can get)
are based on real life experiences from people and including mine.
I see you two pointing fingers at me but can't correct me.

I never said it was "the law" in oregon. I have no reason to prove
this to you. Only way you can find out is by street racing(yes, its stupid) somebody and get busted.

Seriously, if you are not familar with street racing scene, you wouldn't
have a single idea of what Im talking about. BS facts? go ahead and
raise your own.

Not being proud of my driving history when I was young, but really.
Street racing penalty in oregon is HARSH. Go find out on your own.
It was on Koin 6 news several times regarding street racing.

Again, don't believe me if you don't want to. All I want to point out
is that the officers are NOT going to be easy-going as you think.

There ARE chances you WILL get your car towed, license taken
away, multiple tickets and even jail time.

Its nothing proud to say honestly, but I just wanted to share
what I know. Which is more than what you guys know regarding
this subject.

This is the problem with few BMW owners. "I-know-everything" attitude.
When a guy comes up to them and tell them what they never heard
before, its nothing but BS. Great.

Well, I guess its good to see most of the BMW owners here are
mature enough not to street race and have no experience regarding street
racing.
