JB4 vs. cheaper Dinan sport performance tuner

Hey everyone, I'm picking up a 2014 m235i next week and have a couple questions. First, should I go with the Dinan sport performance tuner ($299) or the JB4 ($530)? Does the sport performance tuner have auto-tune mode like the JB4? Can't find this on the website or anywhere else, a lot more info on the stage 1 tuner but not as much on the cheaper sport performance tuner.

and is it worth it to get a resonator delete through Dinan vs. locally?

Thanks for any tips

I have the dinan sport tune in my x3 and can use the app to change boost values. I like it. others will tell you to buy the jb4 of course.

I also have the Dinan res delete...try to get that done at a local muffler shop. it'll be cheaper for sure and same result.

EDIT: sorry, meant to type JB+ for comparison purposes

why don't you read the forums as this has been covered over and over again.

The sport tuner is similar to the jb+, not jb4.

thanks for the advice, so the sport performance tuner can adjust as I make more upgrades. I'll save the couple hundred bucks there and by doing the delete locally.

my advice is to read this board front to back before posting.

Anything you are going to ask has been asked 3 times already and answered in great detail.

The jb4 and Dinan sport are completely different animals. If cost is your goal I would suggest the jb+ as it is $199 and performs the same function as the Dinan sport.

Also if you buy the jb+ from burger directly you can get a full credit for the price when you upgrade to the jb4.

That said I would just get the jb4 since it interfaces to the vehicle can bus you have additional safety features beyond the stock dme functions. You will get smoother and greater performance since it interfaces with the map and fuel pressure sensors. The Dinan sport and jb+ only interface with the tmap sensor.

The last point is that the jb4 will allow for future growth with mods and e85.

Before you cut into your stock exhaust you may want to consider a catless downpipe. You will get a great sound with an actual performance gain and it is fully reversible. The only down side is there will be the raw exhaust smell outside the car and for emission inspections you would need to reinstall the original downpipe. All you need is some ramps basic tools and a couple hours (max) to do the swap.

That's cool that Burger gives the credit back if I choose to upgrade, thanks. Im gonna go with the JB+, the extra hundred for the bluetooth feature probably isn't worth it. Thanks for answering, first post on here and people are freaking out.

No worries, I would still take a look at the features the jb4 offers. The lack of data logging is a real minus towards the jb+ and Dinan sport in my book. Also if you spring for the Bluetooth adaptor (140+30 (app)) you can monitor critical parameters and log from your phone. It gets a little more expensive but well worth the added features. Every car responds to mods a little differently so being able to ellvaluate how it is running is very important.

JB4 and Bluetooth all the way. I thought I didn't need the Bluetooth either and wasted $30 or whatever on the data cable. Changing maps on the fly and seeing critical engine parameters is now as easy as reading a text message.

Just for clarification in this thread.

Dinan Sport Tuner is ~ similar to JB+

Dinan offers bluetooth capability though which may or may not be useful to some.

JB+ is less expensive though and they both provide similar gains.

JB4 is different the JB+ and Dinan Sport Tuner.

JB4 is more advanced and recommended (and better) for modified cars - especially with the addition of downpipes and FMIC.

As far as USB Cables or Bluetooth kit with JB4, we recommend both. There are some things the Bluetooth kit can't do that the USB cable is necessary for.

Hope that helps.

Dinan sport, comparable to JB+ is a quick install for a a noticeable power increase.

JB4 offers much more. It is a stage 2 tune with a smoother power delivery and a ton of feautures.

If you plan on adding more mods in the future, JB4 is the clear winner.

If you are keeping your car stock, its a tough choice
