I don't care where the clock gets set. Just leave it alone once it's there.

I dated a chick years ago who claimed she had "seasonal depression" & her sex drive went to nil in winter. That was her excuse. I never bought it, at least in her case, b/c she was a cheating whore & also she came running back when Spring hit b/c she was horny again & knew where the good dick is. Made her buy me bday gifts, since it was near my bday, in order for her to get more railings from me. Those were the days!
It's a very real thing. Part of mine is also associated with the holidays. My kids are older now and rarely come around, this along with the fact that I don't have family that I spend the holidays with and that my father died on Christmas and his funeral was on NYE tends to ruin the festive spirit for me. Unfortunately I spend the next two months dreading that week and then spend January trying to get back to normal mentally. It gets a little better each year but still nothing to get excited about. The normal things that most people do this time of year such as spending time with family, Christmas shopping, decorating, etc. are all things that I no longer do. On the positive side, I don't waste time decorating, putting up a tree or dealing with crowds shopping.

Ultimately messing with the clocks does not change how many hours of daylight there are during the day.

Here's my take on it. I hate that it gets dark by 4:00 - 4:30 PM in the winter while on standard time. If we were permanently on daylight savings time, then it would be getting dark by 5:00 - 5:30 PM in the winter which for whatever reason, feels more natural to me.

Funny thing is, my 4yo seems completely un-phased by the whole thing. She goes to bed and gets up without any issue.

Crazy.

It's either than or later sunrise. No way of getting around less sunlight hours in the winter.

True, I would just prefer to have the sunlight later in the day.

Just a question I read in the internet;

If a baby is born at 1:59 A.M. and its twin is born 2 minutes later, but the clock is set back to 1:01 A.M. because of daylight savings, which sibling is older on paper?

Plot twist: what if the doctor didn't have time to switch the clock back. Would the child grow up feeling different because they were treated as someone who is actually a different age?

I couldn't imagine the horror growing up feeling one way while the world perceived me a different way.

I think its time has passed. Most farming is commercially owned. I also work w/ folks in AZ and I always get tripped up twice a year for at least a few weeks each time.

Now I am confused....where are you in Canada that there is not the DST time change?? I thought there was no part of Canada that did not follow the Spring/Fall DST switch. "Enlighten" me.

I'm all for going to permanent DST. But I understand how folks living on the extreme western edge of time zones would find it a bit disturbing. More light in the evenings is fine with me and I'm ok with 10PM sunsets at the extreme (more time for riding after work). But I understand why the morning crowd (farmers, etc) would object.

I hate the clock change. I'd be lying if I said I didn't get a slight bit of enjoyment watching those who forgot to set their clocks come in late/early though.

The real question isn't who hates DST; there's been near-universal agreement about it for as long as I can remember. Every year at this time, the topic gets discussed among friends and n the media. But...

... with all the strong dislike – and armed with stacks of evidence disproving its original premise – what would it actually take to bury DST once and for all?

It's kind of a phenomenon that such a strongly-desired abolishment gets virtually no real-world traction. Heavy buy-in to the idea of reversing DST hasn't made any broad-scaled difference whatsoever (excepting AZ, et al.)

We (citizens) seem powerless to influence such a seemingly easy change. Are there any salient ideas for eradicating this detestable time change ritual, in the stagnant waters of do-nothingness?

Or, will we just complain once again, in vain, at this same time next year? Ho-hum. In the words of the great Mr. Spock, "Fascinating."

I think you messaged the wrong person, no? This hardly seems like a federal matter.

I dislike it too. And I have no idea why they moved it up a week in the spring and back a week in the fall, starting in 2007.

The whole thing is stupid. But we love stupid.
