Hi... First time poster. Just bought, and am waiting for delivery of, a 10,000 mile 2018 M240i Convertible. It is Certified Pre-Owned, and I will have about 4 years or 100,000 on the warranty. I’ll post pictures after I get it.

The car already has Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires on it. As there is no default spare in the car and I don’t think these are run flats, are there suggestions for any type of spare that might reasonably fit in the very limited trunk? I know there is a pump and assumably some gunk to pump into the tires.

Any other suggestions for a new owner that should be considered day 1?

If you put that in your trunk you won't have room for one rollaboard suitcase, much less even the smallest member of your support staff that one likes to keep back there.

I was pretty nervous about having no spare but day in and day out I've gotten over it. That said, when these tires wear out, I will very likely go for run-flats. They've saved my bacon a couple of times.

I took the run flats off my car and changed to the Michelin Super Sports.... so much better tires and not nearly as expensive as the run flats. I got a spare Bavarian Autosport and kept it in the trunk and when I needed more trunk space put it behind my seat.

I have repaired a tire curbside twice using a simple tire repair kit. I keep one in the car along with a compact pump that really pumps - 90 seconds to full inflation. The real pump makes it so I can feel air coming out of the tire damage. Between that, the BMW goop and my cell phone to call a family member to bring a spare tire, I'm hoping I'm covered. Still a risk. The real spare takes up too much space unfortunately.

My old F30 3er had run-flat summer tires and no spare. Hated the tires. I even got a flat and the run-flats didn't hold up long enough to get me to the dealer. During the winter I had regular rubber and just kept a Conti Kit in the trunk. No issues.

My F23 m240i converti has MPSS, and comes with its own Bmw tire pump/patch kit incase you get a flat. All else fails, call Bmw concierge.

Now those were real spare tire carriers with room for 4 more tires in the massive trunk. I had a white 57 Chevy Belair vert, no continental kit but I didn't need one.

I'm on my second F23 convertible. I carry the Dynaplug in my trunk. Works great. Just used it on my wife's Jag.

Do you need to rebalance the wheels after inserting it? Does the brass head break off and bounce around?

I've used an old school kit with reamer, glue and rubber plug.

This Cadillac ATS complete kit with the same tire is about $200 less and the tire/wheel alone about $70 less than the bimmerzone offer.
The aluminum wheel even looks like it might be better and the kit comes with a real case. I have not bought one yet but plan to.

Uhh I don't believe the Cadillac shares the same center bore size as BMW. Correct me if I'm wrong.

BMW - 72.6mm
Cadillac - 70.3mm

I initially looked into the smaller size spare tire, but it wasn't that small and, once on the car, couldn't be used for much distance. I decided to go with a full-size tire that would take up somewhat more of the trunk but could actually get me home even if the flat happened on a highway 150 miles from my house (which is where I got my last flat). When I was ordering two sets of wheels from Tire Rack, one with summer tires and one with winter tires, I ordered an extra wheel with an AS tire mounted on it.

This does take up most of the trunk, especially because you also have to carry around a jack and some tools, but it gives me a lot of peace of mind. When I get groceries or have other stuff to haul, I just stick the stuff in the back seat.

No, I'm sure you're right. But the way it has been explained to me is that aftermarket donut spare wheels are rarely made specifically for one car and center bore size. The bimmerzone one, for example, comes with a centering ring. At the speed and conditions I use a donut spare, I would not have a problem just mounting it with lug centering, i.e. without a centering ring. If it was a concern, a ring is a two-dollar piece of plastic.

With that Caddy spare it won't work even with a ring because the bore is smaller than the BMW's. If it was a larger bore you could use a hub ring though.

I checked with the manufacturers and they assure me it will fit the M240i and fit over the larger brakes. "Good news, our wheel actually has a Center Bore of 72.6, so it will be both hub centric and lug centric for your vehicle."
I'll post a review when I get it.
