2 Series hit 60K miles. What should I be worried about the most?
So 2 series hit 60K miles. Don't have extended warranty through BMW. Was wondering if there were high mileage owners that would be able to tell me, at this point, how should my service schedule be? What should I focus on first, as well as what should I be concerned about.
Not sure how long I'm going to keep the car, might be eyeing a trade for the G20 next year, but any advice would be helpful. |

use the Search feature because this very question has some great threads - one thread has a maintenance checklist form a BMW club feature writer. If I find the thread I'll post a link to it here in the future.
https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1406833 Oil changes with quality oil is probably your single most important maintenance item. The brake fluid changes to protect the expensive ABS. Last edited by overcoil; 11-09-2018 at 05:10 PM.. |

"What should I be worried about the most?"
How you plan to enjoy the next 60k miles Honestly, keep up on the factory maintenance plan, stay ahead of service deadlines, have it thoroughly inspected 2 times per year to stay on top of future required maintenance/repairs, and you'll be fine. Usually if I'm paying for a service shop to do my oil changes, they provide a fairly thorough inspection for leaks, front end, brakes, bushings, etc. so that's usually good enough. Trick is finding a solid independent BMW technician who knows what to look for, that alone can save you $$$$ in the long run, especially if owning for 5-10+ years. Just my $.02

I wouldn't be worried about the engine itself. Regular oil changes etc. should keep it healthy. You, all of us rather, are more than likely to experience electrical gremlins.
Plenty of high mileage N55 and N54 motors around. Probably expect some turbo replacements in the 130k mile range roughly, other than that, the usual window motors/switches, sensors etc might kick the bucket. I got the extended platinum warranty because I have nav and parking sensors etc. and that has been already replaced on my car. Original unit kicked the bucket like 5 months in.

1) Timing chain. If that goes, your motor goes and it is a known issue with the motor in your car. I believe BMW extended the warranty though and the timing chain is covered for 7 years / 80K miles.
2) Pads and rotors 3) Water pump and coolant lines 4) Oil cooler and valve cover gasket leaks

Normal maintenance as per the book
Change Zf8 fluid if you have the ZF8 transmission There are no major weakness overall with the car or design. Items will wear out due to time or wear like any other electro-mechanical system It is a car - drive, enjoy and maintain like normal |

We have no book here in the States.
Before taking my car in for its first oil change at my dealer last week, I looked through the maintenance booklet and the owner's manual for anything resembling an old-style maintenance chart or schedule. There was none. At the dealer, I asked what schedule I needed to follow so that my warranty would remain in effect. I was told that my dash would tell me when service was needed.

get your hands on a ISTA-D and if you wanted to code ISTA-P.
same software the bmw techs will use most likely to fix anything if you brought it in.
