Best to get your dealer to print the full option spec for you, although if you already have the VIN, a VIN decoder can give you the option list.
Just looked up my VIN now that it has finished production and see a code in the spec list of "S840A High Speed Synchronization". I assume that's what you are referring to. So, is that the 155mph limit then?

Correct, 250km/h limit, as opposed to 210km/h without it.

Re: Recode Speed Limiter

For what it's worth, I was just communicating with BMW expert about this very topic. Their comments were:

"The Top Speed Limiter is a factory installed item only. This feature cannot be added to the vehicle after production. Please reply to this email with your production number, when available, so that we can confirm your vehicle order."

As it turns out, I had the proper code (840) on my build sheet. And yes, it's really a psychological thing - but I'm OCD anyway about things like this.

Now the real Q is whether it is really limited to 155, or if that is just "no limit, and we think it will only hit 155" Kinda gets my palms sweating to imagine how I'd really find out.....

Watch videos on Youtube of runs on the Autobahn. The car appears to be electronically limited, as it appears to peg the speedometer while still accelerating strongly. Drag limited cars will have a significant drop off in acceleration as the car runs out of power to overcome the increasing drag.

Although I haven’t hit the 250km/h limiter on the M240i, in a controlled environment, I did hit the 240km/h limiter that the 135i had. It is fairly benign as the car goes from accelerating to a soft limit that is less abrupt than the normal rev limiter, just holding the car at the speed limiter within 1km/h or so.

Actually this is INCORRECT!
Depending on the wheel & tire set it was ordered with in the build by the dealer the speed limit is set to either 130mph or 155mph.
If the car was ordered with
- 225 All Season Run Flats all around it is limited to 130mph
- 225 front & 245 rear high performance non-run flats it is limited to 155
This limit CANNOT be changed by the dealer nor Dinan (so far) and if a aftermarket flash exists that can remove it, it will INVALIDATE THE WARRANTY on the car.

It doesn't matter if it has been driven under or over 10 miles.

This is very odd because I have every option available on my M-Sport, including S840A High speed synchronisation but my car came with staggered RFT Bridgestone's S258A Tire with run-flat functionality

BTW what exactly does S697A Area-Code 1 for DVD mean?

The high speed limiter option (S840A) is tied to summer tyres, RFT or non-RFT. It is the non-staggered all-season RFT tyres that don't get that option, as the "V" rated all-season tyres such as the Pirelli P7 are only rated to 240km/h, below the 250km/h speed limiter provided by S840A.

Got it. I have the UHP summer RFT's so it makes sense now. Too much confusing info spread all over the internet.

You can remove the factory top speed restriction with a Bootmod OBD2 tune for a N55..

Apparently, the B58's OBD is not cracked yet..

Just make sure I'm not the road when you test it out please
