Parking sensors going off in the rain

The parking sensors on my M235i go off every time there is water or rain drops on them.

Makes them useless whenever I park in the rain, or after washing the car. The display shows red and there is just a continuous beep.

Has anyone else experienced the same, or is it just my car for some reason?

It's just you. My 2015 M235 has never had a problem. However, my wife's X3 did show this problem in heavy rain once. She took it in to the dealer and they replaced the faulty sensor in question. You should do the same.

I've had it happen twice but not due to rain. Both times I was in a parking garage. I assume it was just the beams bouncing off the glossy floor

I had this once driving out of a parking lot after the car just sat in heavy rain. It went away on its own after driving a few feet.

That system doesn't even go on until you select Reverse or press the switch. If the sensors are firing otherwise, it's a malfunction.

That has never happened to me, but then again SoCal never gets any rain worth mentioning about.

Just to clarify, no problem at all until I reverse or press the switch.

When the sensors are switched on (in reverse gear or after the switch is pressed), they beep continuously whenever they are wet. They function normally when they are dry

Do the beeps increase as they near on object?
Cause I think mine may beep in the wet in a manner that they don't in the dry, but the warning increments still function as they near an object. Never occurred to me to consider it a original problem, just that the rain reflects the light back to the sensor.

I have this issue currently on my X1 its a MY2016 and right now there is a lot of shifting in the temperature in Sweden so if it rains during the morning hours then in the afternoon if drops below 0 it freezes and ice begins to form on the sensors causing them to go off like crazy,So right now i have to check so there is no ice on the sensors every time i go out to the car.

It just happened to my car... 3.5 years old 50,000km on it... it was pouring outside, as soon as I reversed... first the rear was beeping nonstop, and i got out thinking there's a pole behind me... nope... drove around the block, when to park and then the front sensors started beeping nonstop.

This happens on my 17 M240. I have a US mills work offset plate that I spent about 2 hours trying to mount so it didn’t trip sensor. But as soon as it rains it goes off. Would be very interested to hear how to fix this if others have a solution

Edit: oh and by “go off” I mean it’s the constant beeeeeeepppp as if you’re as close as you can get to something without hitting it. Full blast no escalation of beeps

This happens to me in the rain - I was thinking that water on the sensor defracts the beam and something like the tow hook mounted license plate is near enough to catch the sensor beam.
I wonder if you were to remove wax from the face of the sensor, that the wax beading wouldn’t be so high and refract the beam as much.

The same happens to me. The only solution I found was to keep a towel in the trunk and dry off the plate (if it’s no longer raining by the time you’re backing up). The beeping then stops, but that solution is quite annoying and I stopped doing it after the first time. My guess is that the water droplets on the plate slightly increases its surface area causing the sensor to trip.
