Was thinking of upgrading my F22
I have a '17 F22 with every option ( I think), M sport exhaust and a LCI refresh dash. I love it. Use it as a weekend car only a couple thousand miles a year at most. Bought it used in 2020.
What i don't love about it is if I drive it for more than an hour or so I get quite uncomfortable in my right leg as I find the gas peddle is more towards the center of my body than towards the right. I have two different sets of family that each live about 2 hours away and sometimes it's fun to take it other than the family truckster. SO, I've been playing with the idea of upgrading it to something more comfortable thats nearly or as fast. I've kinda settled on the idea of a ~2020 C63 benz. I haven't driven one yet and the reviews are mixed, but I gotta say I do love the idea of a twin-turbo V8, they are rather hard to find, none local, but a few within 300 miles. BUT, then I decided to build and price a brand new M240iX, a G42, while I don't think its as good looking a car as my F22 it is actually less money than a used C63. Haven't driven one of these yet either, but want to... QUESTIONS: Has anyone found that the driving position is more comfortable on a G42 than it was on a F22? How long is BMW taking on ordered M240iX, weeks or months.... Anyone driven a C63, 2019 - 2022? Thank for any responses |

Interesting - I've owned my 2017 from brand new. I take road trips to the Smoky mountains in Tennessee (10 hrs) and also Toronto Canada (7-8 hrs) every year -no leg issues.
Are you extremely tall or is the seat adjusted correctly?

I find the F22/F23 sport seats horribly uncomfortable, too. The side bolsters on the seat bottom are just too rock hard. I use a cushion by purple to counter that effect. As for your specific issue, I would suggest taking very long test drives before you spend you hard earned money. Make sure it's a car you can drive long distance and maybe you'll find yourself putting more than 2k/ year on it.

The right question is whether it is comfortable for YOU. There is no such thing as comfortable for everyone. And yes, seat position is crucial. My wife was unhappy with the seating in my F22 until she fiddled with the angle and got that right. It is possible that you are sitting too far back or too low, both of which can cause leg discomfort over the long term. There are lots of videos on how to get the seating position right, including adjusting the steering wheel.

Are there options to have different seats installed in the car? If you are also thinking a different car in more appealing then this is a dumb idea, but if it's only the seats you are disappointed with might be worth exploring.

One possibility is that with age you have developed a muscle that doesn't like maintaining a small, steady force. I don't have a problem in the BMW, but in the very different seating position of our SUV I get cramps and pain in my throttle leg after about an hour. I solved the problem by clicking on cruise every time I expect to run at a steady speed for more than a couple minutes.

A test drive is the only way to evaluate your personal anatomy being compatible with the vehicle. We are all different and I don't have any of your concerns with pedal placement or pedal alignment with my older-than-your body. Before you buy any Benz, take a look at Consumer Reports and JDPower for quality/reliability ratings. Not the road tests, but the actual survey data reported by owners about things-gone-wrong. MB has had dismal performance in recent years.

BMW seats are generally well regarded by automotive reviewers, but that does not mean everyone will find them comfortable. Certainly they are designed more toward the sport side of the equation than the cushy luxury one. A lot of people find cushy luxury seats quite uncomfortable as well, and some people simply don't like sitting in any seat for a long period of time. Can't really offer much advice for you here, other than to decide what attributes you prioritize in a seat and go from there. Good luck.

The concern with seat cushions is that they may undo the significant design work on the seat pan that is intended to prevent lower torso submarining in a forward impact. A cushion tends to wipe out the upward shaping of the front of the pan and creates a more slippery surface for your bottom to slide off going forward.

For what it's worth, when I bought my M240 in SoCal and drove it the 6 hours back, I was afraid I'd made a mistake as I was pretty uncomfortable. My right leg was verging on getting numb after a couple of hours and my back hurt. It wasn't until I raised the seat up (which seemed a little counterintuitive) that I got it right. Now I can do long stints without a problem (and I'm well over 53).

Thanks everyone for the responses. I have watched some videos on getting the correct seating position and also do have the seat raised pretty high.
I've done more research on the C63 and it reads more and more like owning one is more like having an "exotic" than I'm looking for. Lots of info on total brake rebuilds every 10,000 miles. Still a twin-turbo V8 would be nice to have. Probably just keep this M240 that I love, or maybe go and test drive a new one, these new ones tho just aren't as visually appealing as my '17 is, and I would lose the M performance exhaust. Thanks again for everyone's input They do have two '23 M2 locally......... |

I discovered that the seat could be tilted back about a year into the ownership of my 228i and once I tilted it back my body wasn't used to the different position. After about an hour I'd be sore and after two hours I would no longer feel like driving. It took me about a week of driving to get used to the new position. I believe that when the seat is tilted back it does make it so the feet position are unorthodox. When the seat is not tilted and sitting flat, it seems to be a more traditional feeling.
Perhaps you could try tilting it if you haven't already? I'm also 5'8" for reference. |

As we age our joints and muscles tend to stiffen quicker. Using 'cruise' and getting out of the car often will help. Also consider PT. They should be able to offer some exercises to help.

I don't pay attention too much though since my main two things for seating is being close enough to the steering wheel and having the seat high enough. I don't experience any issues after sitting but I'm sure that will happen as I get older. The M2 feels more planted and stable on the road. Some of that is due to the increased weight, and some due to the suspension and tire setup. I don't know, I've only driven it 250 miles. I really liked how the M240i drove too so I don't think you can go wrong either way. I got into the M2 because of the S58 motor, getting all the new technology, and I really wanted an M2. I was able to test drive the M2 a few months ago and without that experience I don't know if I would have moved forward. I needed to feel how different it was. If you have a chance to test drive go take advantage.

This caught my attention. Be sure you have a minimum of 10" from the surface of the steering wheel hub to your sternum so a potential air bag deployment doesn't happen under your chin and create a possible basilar skull fracture in an otherwise survivable crash.
