Replacement Battery Registration?
When you replace a 2 series battery does anyone know if the new battery needs to be registered in the same manner as our '11 x5?
Instead of having to pay the dealer or independent garage to do it, I want to buy one of the electronic tools so I can do it myself, but if our 235 requires the same thing, I want to make sure I get a tool that works on both cars so I'll be prepared when the time comes. Thanks in advance for your help. |

Yes, all late-model BMWs require registering the new battery with the car's charging system. You can use Carly for BMW Pro and their bluetooth OBDII adapter, which will cost about $100 all told for the adapter and the license. Very easy operation, works on Android and IOS devices.

Can Carly also handle a change to the type of battery (AGM versus lead acid) as well as a change to the Amp Hour rating of the battery? Finally, with Carly can you see the battery history the way the pros can (history of battery replacements, history of the charge condition of the existing battery, etc.)? Appreciate your help. |

Here's a link that will answer your questions:
http://support.mycarly.com/knowledge...hould-you-buy/ You can choose AGM vs. lead-acid, but you can't replace an AGM with a lead-acid. It also allows you to select the ampere-hour rating. It will vary from car to car (chassis/model).

You're welcome! I've been using Carly for BMW since it was called "BMWhat" and it's been well worth the cost.

Thanks for the input. I did see the info on ISTA+ and ENET, and candidly was a bit scared away by it as my computer literacy is merely average. Looks significantly more complicated and I was not clear how current some of the data was.
No doubt I probably could have waded my way through it after investing some time, but I came to the conclusion that in my case the investment in Carly would be worth it. |
