Parking decal question

Here is my problem. My university makes me have a parking pass that sticks to your windshield that is very sticky and hard to remove. I went to the chief of our campus police and told him that I don't want to put this sticker on a brand new $50k car because it's a huge pain to take off and I'm afraid I may scratch the windshield if I use a blade when I remove it. He said he didn't care at all and told me if I don't put it up I will get a ticket and have my car towed. So my question to you all is what should I do? The pass comes with a wax paper covering the sticky side and we aren't allowed to just tape it to the windshield. I really don't want to have to put that adhesive on my windshield, so any ideas on how to get around it would be helpful!

Any ideas?

Marcel

Taking it off with a FLAT razor blade will not scratch your window. I'd just either stick it on the outside or tape it to the inside of your window.

It has to go on the inside of the car, it can't go on the outside. I've tried the razor on my other car but it still did scratch. Maybe I'm terrible at doing it. I didn't much care on the other car because it is my off road vehicle, but I really don't want to mess this car up.

If you have to expose the sticky part of the decal for the numbers and such to show just get some clear packing tape or maybe an overhead transparency to stick to the sticky side then attach it to the window with something easier to remove.

You could try getting your hands on some of that sticky clear plastic used to cover books and such. Cover the sticky, visible side with that clear plastic then use some more to place it on the window. If you do it well it shouldn't be too noticable and it's pretty easy to remove.

you know you can go to pep boys or autozone and purchase a window decal scraper that has a razor blade that is flat. of course if you use the corners of it, you'll scratch your window. just make sure the flat sharp edge is all that comes into contact with your windshield.

depending on the size of your university permit, i would consider two other options. at staples, office max or office depot, you can buy one of those clear plastic business card holders that stick onto the inside of notebooks. they are just slightly larger than the size of a business card, are clear, flexible plastic with edges that have mild adhesive.

another option would be to have the decal laminated or just do it yourself (with laminate material from your local office supply store). Then stick that on with whatever you like (packing tape, scotch tape (<-- i don't like this idea), or even suction cups like the NBA or Baby on Board signs use, etc.).

The decal is about 2inch by 2 inches. I just have to make sure it looks good because campus police hates me. They have given me 14 tickets since freshman year and I have gotten out of all but 2. They knew my rover because it stuck out like a sore thumb, but i don't want them to figure it out.

Thanks a lot for your help, I'll give those a try. You guys are awesome!

I thought of another idea. Use an overhead transparency as suggested by Ghunger with some thin double sided tape around the edges.

Like some people have mentioned: either use the clear plastic or use the 3M tapes that's double sided. The ones used for hanging stuff on your wall without peeling off the paint.

Any ideas for parking permits that have to be taped to the rear bumper?

It seems *anywhere* I put it will end up looking ugly.

Plus, when in San Francisco, people often bump my bumper, I already had one good scratch on my front bumper.

Mother-f'ers.

Could you fit it beside the license plate? Maybe it wouldn't look quite as bad there.

You can use those things you use for the spark plugs (the spacers). Thats what I used when I had to remove mine off my old car...just stick it underneath...wedge it in side to side and start pulling up slowly..

make a color copy of what it looks like attached to the windshield, glue that copy to the adhesive side of the permit and then use a friendly glue to put it up on your windshield without having to worry about getting it off later.
