CarPlay retrofit - where place module in 2 series (AT)

This thread is a great find as it chimes exactly with what I'm looking to do - install a Carlinkit into my F45. I've looked at various videos and think I'm comfortable with the installation, however like you I won't have room to put the module under the HU. I can't find any instructional videos how to drop the glovebox. You mentioned in your video you had to do the same. Can you point me in the right direction to do this?

most of the connected drive portion doesn't work for me. i never used it before, but it worked before lol.
-I can't see my service intervals. i can see them i think through the dash cluster display, but only when i get a warning on startup.
-Finally, i can't see my warnings in the idrive menu. “
Hi guys i have F20 lci with Joyeauto MMI but these modules work almost identical, The solution for your problem is to check connections again and if you didn’t transfer optical cable you have to dot it..
If you already transferred it, just remove it and connect it again and make sure it is 100% in correct position because this makes this kind of problems..

If you swap out the head unit to an android one and get an additional dongle you can have carplay. Heres a couple of videos that might help you.

Android headunits are useless in comparison with CarPlay MMIs.. I had both and MMI is the most close solution to oem!

Sorry for the wait to reply!

I hope you figured it out by now but i eventually did! I (against what I thought) didn't transfer over the FOIC cable when installing the car play kit.

I hope you didn't wait a week for my reply, but i did find a video online on how to do it for the f30. Same process for the f22!

I just installed carlinkit, and it works really good. I have to say, it is way better than bimmer mmi box.

All the details are in the video description.

For folks who went with a larger OEM screen, where did you end up buying them from?

You’re lucky!! I ordered the road top unit 4/5 and just received it yesterday.

The units working great on testing but it looks like I have to drop the glove box to fit it in. I’m about an inch or 2 from getting the hk radio back in. Has anyone fit it in without dropping the glove box?

Also, where did everyone route their usb cable to?

Almost impossible to fit behind the hk unit without the possibility of crimping wires. I tried, but ended up dropping the glovebox.

Routed the usb cable as such.

Thanks. I was able to get it to fit underneath the radio...I think certain radios are smaller than others. Then I left the USB cable behind the vents for now. If I find that I need it for anything other than software updates I’ll probably route it how you did.

Check out Retrofit packs of oem navigations.
I figured out that their products are not so much costly and their products are pretty impressive.

For anyone experiencing a loss of BMW online services after the install... I'll just add my experience.

I broke the SDARS terminal on the head unit. It just sheared right off when trying to unplug it. So I can't use satellite radio or the online services unless I replace the head unit.

Good thing the only service I used was to set the time automatically. I'll never pay for satellite radio when I have Spotify on CarPlay.

Backup cam operation question?

Hello, Does the backup cam pop on when in the iDrive mode? Or only when in the MMI mode? Same question for a secondary front cam.

I want to maintain using the stock iDrive interface, (wife listens to radio) and have the backup camera pop on when reverse is engaged.
