Removing the weaknesses from the M235i
There are many things to like about the M235i, its size, weight, drive train, practicality, and this being more subjective, the exterior looks. However there have always been a few niggles that make the M235i lacking. I've spent a lot of time in Porsche 911's, and the latest Boxsters and Caymans, and I decided to iron out some of the weaknesses of the M235i, and bring it closer to my dream car, the 911 991.
First lets list the things that bothered me from stock. Exhaust Sound OEM exhaust too quiet Car is too well insulated Suspension/Handling Great suspension setup for cruising/highway driving, but poor body control in the corners, particularly on tight mountain roads. Exterior Design Silver side mirrors looked tacky Rear spoiler was too small which made the rear look too soft. 18 inch stock rims looked girly. Not a fan of the dual exhaust design. Interior Design From a design perspective, the interior is a real let down, in contrast to the exterior. Compared to my wife's Audi A3 2014 s-line, my interior looks cheap and plasticy. The seats look so bland and boring, and it's something you'd find in a BMW from the 90's. The paddle shifters feel really cheap, and make this awful plastic clicking noise when you change gears. I mostly , drive my car in manual mode. So here are the changes I've made so far, and also the changes I will make in the near future. Last edited by Mr_White; 12-10-2018 at 06:34 AM.. |

Exterior design
- 19 inch aftermarket wheels. I think inspired by M performance wheels. - M style side mirror caps in white - M performance spoiler |

How’s the drone with the gutted can? I’m running a delet now and adding a vibrant resonator due to low end droning.

I really love the look of quad exhausts, so thinking of the 3D design rear diffuser, and having it painted in body color. I've photoshopped the 3D design picture, to see what it would look like.

When i go catless DP (likely same time as putting my meth kit in finally) I’ll switch back over to my MPE and do a cutout midpipe just like what your saying.

Getting the sound just right, takes a lot of fluffing around, doesn't it? Yeah, I think that is a good idea. I might try and an add a J pipe just before the cutout, if there's room for it. Do you know how many inches in length your pipe was?

It's pretty inexpensive. Generally, all car related stuff is cheaper in the US than it is, down in Australia. It cost me, around 140USD for two door handles and centre console trim. Hopefully another member, in your area can give you a shout out.

Love where you're going with this mate - i'd want to spruce up my interior just as you have.
Mind sharing some links to the trim pieces and the paddle shifters? Cheers mate! |

That 3D designs diffuser looks really good with the quad exhaust. Have you thought about wrapping the steering wheel in the alcantara to match the other bits?

I have not modded my 240, and likely won't. I like the car for what I want to use it for.
I've seen a lot of crazy mods on this site, and I just shake my head. However, your mods seem very well thought out, and tastefully done. So, I raise my glass to you! Cheers! PS-It's a shame that things cost more down there. |

update, I ended up buying the Boxster, 981 2.7 PDK instead, and am going to sell the BMW. I love it for long distance cruising, and daily commuting, but that numb overly-light steering makes me, the driver feel disconnected, like I'm driving in a video game simulator. I've driven the M3 F80, and the M2, while the steering remains accurate and well weighted, it still feels somewhat artificial.
Despite the, porsche lacking torque and the practicaility of the gorgeous m235i, Porsche remain true to their ethos since the 60's. The summation of all parts to create a true drivers car, whether it be a 911 or Porsche Macan. They still listen to their customers and inject the right dosage of motor sport dna into their road cars. Sorry, BMW. Fix that electric steering. Last edited by Mr_White; 11-01-2018 at 06:32 AM.. |
