Windshield polish hack

My windshield had a buildup on it that I couldn't get off, also the wipers streaked really badly. I tried my DA with polish, I tried 3M adhesive remover, elbow grease, every other glass/fallout cleaner I had - nothing helped, I was about to buy glass polishing pads

then the other day I was cleaning my glass cooktop with cooktop cleaner - turns out it works very well at polishing windshields! And it's cheap. Now the glass is much clearer, and the wipers work properly.

Try Bon-Ami dry. It won't scratch the glass. Sprinkle some on a towel and rub it into the glass. Doing so will remove any crap from the glass.

I've stopped using Rain-X and have switched to Gtechniq products. Here's what I did:
- twice thoroughly scrubbed the glass with my homemade glass cleaner*
- used Bon-Ami and a clean towel to remove remnants of Rain-X
- cleaned the glass with my homemade glass cleaner
- used G4 Glass Nano Polish to properly prepare the glass
- applied 2 thin coats of Gtechniq G5 Water Repellent Coating

* 60% by volume of water, 20% by volume of 70% isopropyl alcohol, 20% by volume of distilled white vinegar and 8 drops of Dawn in a 2 liter bottle. Shake well.
