275/35x18 rear tires on an M235i?

Hi all -

Has anybody successfully stuffed 275/35x18 rear tires on an M235i?

Did it require a lot of fender rolling?

Can't roll the rear fenders. They are basically rolled flat from the factory. You could pull them though, but that might not be allowed with your regulations. You can roll the front though. My front is rolled with a slight pull to get ready for my 255 front setup.

I think with the perfect wheel size and offsets you could probably get a 275 in there. Coilovers would be a must to get the extra wheel/suspension clearance. Also lots of camber.

Most people here do 265 max on the rear.

I will be going 255 square.

At street car weight and tuned power this car really does need at least a 275 rear tire. I would love to do a 285 square or 265f/285r like my last car.

On our old 135i, we managed to roll/pull or do something to the rear fenders where we got 270 racing slicks in there.

The problem at that point after lowering the car was the fuel neck on the right rear unless we could space the wheel out far enough. We had the Apex 18x9.5 et62 wheels with 15mm spacers, but if I were to do an M235i/M240i or another 135i, I'd re-route the fuel hose to the gas tank. I'd want to use an 18x10" wheel if possible.

In the pic below, I have the 18x9.5 et62 wheels with I believe 15mm spacers in the back and up front, we had 18x10.5 et25 with like 15mm or 18mm spacers

I am pretty confident I could fit 275 without any modifications on my car. Tire would be max width for my rim though. I'm not sure it get much more performance than my 265

According to tire rack these fit 9-11" wheels with a measured tire width of 9.5"

If a 275 could fit in an M235i with no modification, that would be amazing news. I sure the wheel offset/spacing would have to be just right. Especially if wanted to run a 10" wheel. And then when lowering the car to a race height, probably still have to watch out for/modify the fuel neck.

You are mad men trying to fit over 265 on the 2 I'm sure it's possible if you use spacers and/or remove those plastic strut covers If you want 335's go get a corvette jk.

But I do love my 265s

Very few choices in racing tires in 265's - Racing tire companies tend to make 275/35x18s

I'm gonna do it just to be first. Maybe I was having a brain fart when I checked, but I think I had half am inch of clearance either side easily

Would love to see that. How much can you lower your car (I'm trying to anticipate if the fuel neck would be an issue like it was on the 135i.

That would definitely get the tires under there, but change the class of the car build I'm looking to be in.

I tested out the wheels from my father's 435 on my 235 xDrive. They are 18x9.5 et40 with 275/35/18 and 18x8 et32 with 225/40/18. I'm not very knowledgeable on this type of thing, so I'm not sure what to be looking for, but there seemed to be a ton of space still inside near the plastic suspension cover on the rear. A good amount of poke, but it wasn't visually as bad as I expected. I'm on stock everything.

Ya, the "Gravedigger" vinyl wrap is being applied as we speak. Can't wait to show you pics.

Like I said: 225/40/18 on front and 275/35/18 on rear. Black rims make for a weird distortion of tire/wheel relationship.

Would definitely work fine with a an aggressive track alignment to get rid of the poke.

I just went 255 square. This makes me want to try 265. Not sure I can get the inner clearance up front though.

I recently picked up another 135i (2010 LeMans blue with manual tranny) and one of my projects would be to see if, with 'proper' fender rolling in the back, I can get some 275s on 18x10" wheels on the back. With 1M front fenders, that's easily doable.

I see an M235i up for salvage auction in LA, so if I pick that up, I may go that route instead (M2 front conversion)

Since I started this thread, I was presented an opportunity to pick up a 2010 LeMans blue 135i with N54 motor and manual transmission. So I think I'll start doing some mods to it in my spare time and first thing on my list is to roll the rear fenders - and I mean roll them as much as possible: We'll actually cut away a bunch of the lip underneath before folding it up against the fender for rolling. So we'll see what kind of wheel/tire I can get under there and what that might mean for a 2 series if the same approach is taken.

When I do, I'll post a thread on that and an update on this thread.

They are only effectively a 255 to 260 wide tyre on an 8” wide rim, which is specified by the manufacturers to be 9 to 11” wide for a 275/35-18 tyre (9.5” rim width will give a nominal 275 width to the tyre). There is a high risk of the bead coming off the rim with high cornering loads, with the significant pinching of the sidewalls on such a narrow rim.

Surprised the tire shop didn't say no to mounting those.
