WOW! Haven't seen that in a while. My mom had a first year Pacer and loved it in NYC because it was relatively short (easy to parallel park), wide (comfort for the two of them), relatively long wheelbase (ride comfort), and an AC system that could freeze meat. Maybe in a PM so we don't go off-topic here, but what was that article's take on the Pacer back then?

Gave her a wash, then ran into a B58 buddy at lunch.

I had to laugh...that describes my '64 Olds 98's AC system perfectly.
That land yacht did so many things well, and living in the South at the time its AC system's instant-on freezer effect was a definite selling point. IIRC, running AC in town took my mileage from ~7 MPG down to ~5 MPG. Premium was 23¢/gal. then (equivalent to $1.47 now), so the AC stayed on for most of the year.

Straying further off-topic, now you have me thinking of another Oldsmobile. My dad's 1972 Cutlass with 455 4bbl. Same fuel economy but awesome performance. Pacer has better AC, however.

Added wireless charging for $15. Doesn't look too bad in my opinion! The short USB cable came from a Tesla Model S and its perfect. Rubber grips on the top and bottom so the phone shouldn't slide much.

Finally fixed the attrocious hood panel gap- I had no clue it was so easy to adjust or it would have been done a long time ago.
Admittedly I'm starting to think a lot about the water pump. Idc if it fails but as it's my mom's car, I'd rather her not get stranded. Mostly because my dad would take issue with such a "new" car breaking down. The washer pump failed the other day which I found amusing and pretty unexpected. The one in my e90 lasted 14 years but it's a easy fix so whatever. Last edited by JonOhh; 03-14-2021 at 11:22 PM.. Reason: I guess to make it on topic? |

Well, over on e90 post "what did you do to your car today" is more of an open discussion about our cars than anything.
I guess that's not the same here if you're asking. Point being, looking at the mileage and reports of when the pumps go on these cars, it might be getting to the point where a failure is coming up. But whatever, I went back and added something I did to it. |

That's clean man. Is that a battery bank as well so you're not limited to the slow charging the center console USB provides? (unless they upgraded that for the 240, it's slow on the 235) That's a win-win if so.

installed the MMR Gear Shift Paddle Set (Dark Anthracite) today.
quick review: they change the gears. they feel great in the hand. a subtle little ridge on the back is nice. the install: the confidence that comes from previously removing the airbag is absolutely priceless. get a long screwdriver and jam it in there like you know what you are doing. dont doubt yourself. watch all those videos about changing the paddles a bunch of times. it went exactly like they all said it would. if i could make one suggestion: turn your steering wheel slightly before starting this project so the paddles dont line up with the wiper and turn-signal stalks. more room to do the springs dance is better than less room. this has been covered elsewhere: the OE paddles are the size they are because of fulcrum and leverage and physics and stuff. the "m" paddles are the same height (tho thinner) for this very same reason. adding a whole lot above or below doesnt magically change fulcrum and leverage and physics. it is harder / difficult / impossible to push the paddle the farther away you get from the connection point. because of the fulcrum and leverage and physics and stuff. further blather: the in-my-hands scale said they weigh about the same as the OE shifters. i dont normally use the paddle shifters, so this was something for fun. if i want to manually shift, i usually want to pretend to be Ken Block so i use the other shifter. maybe these new paddles will make me use them more. |
