Been using Liqui-Moly Top Tec 6200 0W-20 every 5k miles. The last 5k miles was Liqui-Moly 0W-30 or 40, forgot. Tried it out just to see how it'd drive & feel.
Blackstone report came back just fine though, so I'll stick with it. |

For anyone curious, here's a Blackstone report from my last oil change. All the records I have for the car back to new show oil changes performed at 5-7k intervals using BMW Twinpower 0W30 provided by dealer service centers. I will note that on this particular interval, there were probably close to a good 100 miles of spirited driving including sustained speeds above 90 mph shortly before the oil change.
Edit: I realized this is in the B58 section...apologies, I need to learn to read before posting. Last edited by Cos270; 06-17-2022 at 04:45 PM.. |

This is such a highly debated subject, think we'd all agree on that. I've been using Shell Rotella T6 5-40 since i had my first turbo car which was a 09 WRX and i come from a back round of Mustangs, Vette's and muscle cars ect (i'm old LOL). I had never used it before btw but read about it when a fellow Subie enthusiast recommended it. I now have used it on 3 Subie's, inc wrx and sti's, 4 bmw's including N54/N55 and this B58 for two years and 20k miles (bought used at 29k). I have noticed on all of these that oil usage is minimal or none, none on this current B58. It seems to have treated all these engines well. My last thought, i prefer 5-7k intervals.

Well, that's reassuring. I'm probably going to stick with the BMW Twin Power 5W30 LL01 in the summer months until it's no longer available (from my understanding it's been replaced with the 0w30 LL01-FE) but a few retailers still have some stock left over. Maybe once it's impossible to get a hold of I'll switch to the T6 5W30.

Interesting that no one has mentioned Amsoil. Their 0W-20 Euro oil meets/ exceeds BMW's LL-17FE+ specification.
I have been using Amsoil nearly exclusively in my Tundra since about 30K miles and have about 275k on it now with no signs of excessive wear, smoking or other tell tell signs that the motor is failing. Ill be using the amsoil in my M240 going forward. |

"Use in gasoline or diesel vehicles that require any of the following specifications:" The specification standards are then listed, which includes LL-17FE+ in the list. https://amsoilcontent.com/ams/lit/da...tins/g3395.pdf It is likely fine to use, but if there was a warranty issue where BMW claimed that oil not meeting their specification is the problem, Amsoil 0w20 European Formula would not be an approved oil. |

Been using Amsoil 5W40 in my M240i since I bought it new. now at 75,000 miles and no oil burning, no smoke, oil analysis was perfect at 70,000 miles.
