SAME. It is depressing

Wow, that's troubling. My wife is the safest driver but first time behind the wheel she was approaching 110 unknowingly. A 130 mph fuel cut-off is ridiculous. Glad I can get some straight answers to questions here:

1. I may be wrong but the P7 Cinturato A/S RTF 225/40/18s they sent (with '19 M240i xdrive) have a speed rating of 186?

2. To the best of your knowledge, my vehicle is speed limited to 130 mph?

3. No matter what tire I put on, the dealership will no reflash me to 155?

4. What is the 2018 or 2019 OEM summer tire from BMW for this vehicle. Even Tire Rack could not find it. 2017 was MPSS.

Thanks again!

1. P7 Cinturato RFT in 225/40-18 should be a 92V rated tyre, good for 240km/h / 149mph.

2. Without build code “S840A - High speed synchronisation” (which your car shouldn’t have with V rated tyres, speed is limited to 210km/h (130mph).

3. Dealer Likely won’t reflash and in any case this option (S840A) supposedly can only be added when the DME (engine ECU) has less than 10 hours running time.

4. Factory may use several tyres, but they will be a minimum of a ”W” (270km/h) maximum performance summer tyre from their normal suppliers (Pirelli, Michelin, Continental and Bridgestone), in 225/40-18 on 7.5” front wheels and 245/35-18 on 8” rear wheels and with a BMW * rating.

Thank you for all of the information. Automobile did a very positive review of the convertible in the link below. I got 225/40/18s all around, maybe because it is AWD. Well, I guess that's why people buy M2s! We both really like the car though. Thanks again.

I got rid of my RFT's about 6 weeks ago after I blew out the sidewall on a second tire. Replacing 2 of the RFT's would cost almost as much as a set of 4 Michelin Pilot AS3+ so I went with the Mich. I can tell you from very recent personal experience that the AS3+ is a much more compliant ride and sticks better. I did not notice a reduction in road noise as they both seem about equal. If I get a flat, I have a bottle of Slime and an inflator for emergency but roadside assistance would be my first choice.

With RFTs often not repairable, I initially didn't regret getting the five-year tire/wheel coverage. Bad news is if I put summer tires on next Spring or go with AS3+, I imagine my warranty is no good. But no whining, as I got a very good price and will eventually burn off the RFTs and enjoy summer tires next year anyway.

Plus, my previous cars were gosh-awful handlers, so am impressed at handling of this new car, RFTs or not.

Yeah, I'm 63, but have a real problem obeying speed limits while listening to Mötley Crüe's Kickstart my heart.

Is this right? I looked at the specs and the front is narrower than the back? I think you might have gotten it confused?

I believe that a flash tune coded for that condition can correct it for you. Not just by raising the limit to BMW's other and higher artificial barrier of 155, but by removing the limit entirely.

One example: http://www.bpmsport.com/services/tun...-f4x-tune.html. BPM doesn't list the B58 motor, but I imagine it will have a tune for our cars sooner or later.

From a bit of research I did on the google, seems that no one has of yet has a flash tune for the F22 B58 engine. I suppose someone will eventually.

That is correct for cars ordered with performance tires, if you ordered with All Season, it is 7.5 front AND rear, so you can only have 225s. "if only I'd known". I got a great deal on it, but my sales person wasn't very knowledgeable and never warned me of this.

A shop owner told me that Dinan is due to release one in the spring.

Then there's this one I just remembered: https://missiontuning.com/bmw-engine...sh-tuning.html.

IIRC, there's an outfit in the Netherlands with one, too.

As you suggested, though, unless you're going to the track or some other place where you can count on exceeding 130 mph, you'll never end up using the speed limit delete.

Thanks! Is it "wrong" of me tho to just have this gnawing ache in my soul just knowing that my car COULD go 155 but it's disabled?

Not at all. In many circles, this is considered normal.

Having gone 152 in my Volvo wagon, I know the M240i can attain a higher speed than 155. When the time comes, make it clear to the vendor that you want no speed limit whatsoever on your car. They'll know just what you mean.
