Blower working but very little air

Coming home yesterday I had something odd happen. The air out of the vents slowed down to almost nothing ( but some did come out and it was cold from the AC) I changed from auto to manual and tried all the vent possibilities but no matter what very little air came through the vents. I turned the fan up and could hear it but yet no more air came out any vent. When I got home I searched the forum and internet and did not find anything to cause this. I went out to the car after maybe 30 minutes and it was working fine. I am mixed on taking it in as it works now. Anyone ever experience this, or have any ideas?

Spit-ballin' here, but I'd guess that the flaps (controlled electronically when you select floor, vent, defogger, etc.) that direct air flow through the car's vents malfunctioned. Likely the flaps stayed closed (for some reason) no matter which setting you chose. Shutting car off and restarting re-set everything to normal.

Distinct possiblity this will never occur again, but if it does, I'd visit a dealer. Doing so now (unless the svc tech" can recreate the issue) will be for naught.

Oddly, mine did that the other day. It was cool for top down but I had top down anyway, and had heater on full blast but not much air. Haven't noticed if it's better or not.

Hi: I changed the plugs a few days ago, and the cabin air intake was completely clogged with leaves and, maybe a mouse house. I had noticed a loud noise when the fan was on high. Cleaned it out and it's all better now.

I assume I changed the recirculation button but not sure I will check the intake just in case! Thanks!

If the car is still under warranty, I'd report the issue now and have them check it out. That way, even if they don't find anything wrong, it will be on record that the issue was reported before the warranty expired.

Good point Peter, if you show it was an issue before warranty expires, you have a case to get it fixed gratis after warranty expires.

I had this same issue happen last Wednesday after about 40 minutes of driving with the windows down and a low setting on the AC. I shut the car off and restarted after maybe 5 mins. AC blew normal amount of air for about 10 minutes, but it then reverted back to almost no air coming out of the vents.

Took it into the dealership the next day to have it looked at while still under warranty. They replaced the cabin filter AND told me the blower motor resistor was going bad and replaced that as well.

If you still have warranty, I'd take it in and see if you are in the same boat, otherwise just try cleaning out the filter for now. Makes a difference from the research I did the night it happened.

there's more info in the f30 threads, but it seems to be the evaporator coil freezing over. it tends to happen in high humidity and low air flow conditions. I've had it happen twice.

to fix, turn the AC off, recirc the air, and change to manual high. anything to get the ice to melt.

f30 has a tsb out, noting for the f22/23 as I know of. not sure what the tsb says either.

In my 240? No, but I have in three other cars (two Honda's and one Toyota). As nikijack said, evict the mouse.

Take to the dealer than can reprogram so that it won’t happen again. This became a daily problem for me. Dealer reprogrammed mine a few weeks ago and no more problems.

I've had the same thing happen to me also. It was on a long drive on a humid day.

You can also take it to the dealer as Scadam mentioned, and apparently they have a software fix to keep from freezing the sensor.

This is not totally related but our F36 one time threw a fault code with message saying "drivetrain malfunction". I shut the car down, waited 10 minutes and re-started, no message re-appeared, everything working well. When I brought it in for the yearly oil change, the technician ran a code check and found that the refrigerant pressure had gone too high, shutting down the compressor, which in turn activated the fault message. It has not happen again since then.

It is likely the evaporator freezing issue due to faulty freeze probe.
If the car is still under warranty, get it fixed as soon as you can.
If AC keeps running with frozen evaporator, it can damage the compressor.

I had the exact same issue on a 6 hour road trip. I mentioned it to the dealer during regular service and it turned out there was a software update to correct the problem. They did the fix and I haven't had the issue since.

So if you have some weird A/C issues I'd mention it to the dealer!

I am getting much less air out of my left vents (driver side) than out of my right vents. Anyone else notice this?

I have had this happen on startup, but it always clears up within a minute or two.

I am having this same problem right now. I'm currently in the middle of a road trip. Drove for 3 hours , then stopped for lunch. Another hour into the drive In California heat, I noticed that the airflow coming from the vent was minimal. It was set at 70 deg, Auto level 3. I increased the fanspeed but there was minimal difference. The blower seemed to be very loud, which had been a problem that I noticed in the past few weeks. Set to manual and fanspeed/blower seemed louder but air still wasn't very cold and airflow seemed minimal

Ultimately, turned off AC/climate entirely and drove for about 30 min with the windows down. Then tried the AC again, and it worked again, but ultimately after another 30 min or so the airflow died.

Definitely going to have to visit the dealer once I get back from this trip. Is there anything else I can do in the interim? Where is the cabin air filter located?

Most likely we are having icing on the cooling coil, maybe due to minimal coil size or maybe due to low freon level.

Nope. I never sit on the right side of my car!
