Ticking noise front suspension?

Hey Everyone!
I'm new to the forum...very cool site.

Just got my new car, and this break in period thing is killing me. I want to kick the sh!t out of it but I have to wait till it reads 1500km.

So far I've installed front lip, side blades, and ordered rear diffuser with M exhaust. (Pic's will follow)

Has anyone experienced a ticking noise when turning the steering wheel from side to side while parked...WTF!!!
Is this normal?

Thanks

you should try to avoid turning the steering wheel either while stationary or foot hard on brakes while stopped. That little bit of forwards/rearward motion while turning removes strain from the components.

Can't answer your question though.

Steering noise

Hi there.I am also new here and specially joined from Cape Town South Africa to get a few answers that BMW SA could not give me.
Yes,we do have m235's here although very rare.Ordered mine about a year in advance!!
Righthand drive though but got the adaptive M suspension and Variable Sport Steering and auto box.
My car also has a ticking/rusty spring kind of noise when turning the steeringwheel at standstill or when turning at parking speeds!
BMW SA had a look and could not identify the problem.Told me it was a "common noise" due to the combination of the suspension,VSS and sticky tires!!!
Contacted a friend of mine who is an engineer at BMW Germany who told me it is BS and BM's are not suppose to have a common noise. He then contacted BMW SA to reinvestigate.
The have contacted me and said that the are waiting to test a car with the same specs as mine to see if it is a common noise.
I would like to know if anyone else maybe has a car with Adaptive Susp and VSS and noise when turning at standstiil/slow speeds.
Otherwise the m235 is a cracker!!

This is actually my second m235.
I had a noise when I baught the first one and they couldn't find the problem so they gave me a new one. (346km)
They changed the top plates...same sh!t. Then they wanted to change the whole front end suspension...I said no way I want a new car!
The noise is still present but not as bad.
Thanks guys

Very interesting. I am also experiencing the ticking noise at very low speeds (below 10mph) after it has been sitting for a while. And this only happens when I turn right, never left. I don't get it while stationary. Not sure what to make of it. I may have to go get it checked out. Mine is a 228 M Sport btw.

ya US m235s get adaptive suspension and variable sport steering...

the noise i hear is more of a click when moving the steering a lot or when coming of a curb ramp where the suspension goes up and down considerably...

if you mean a stone on the tread.... then is it a rotational sound? meaning increases with speed ?

Yes.The sound is more of a click when you move the steering a lot at low/parking speeds.Cannot hear it when driving.Does not increase with speed nor can it be felt on the steering wheel.
Sounds like a "commom noise" then.
Waiting for BMW SA to contact me later this week.
Will keep you posted!!!!
In the meantime keep silencing those GTI's/Golf R's.They are like sheep here.

Hi, I've just picked up my new F22 a month ago (1000 km) and a couple weeks ago I also started to ear a popping noise (like "troc", it's just an isolated noise) coming from the steering when I park the car or when I turn the wheel when I am in reverse at low speeds. I notice that the quicker I turn the wheel the louder the sound is. The odd part is that sometimes it happens sometimes it doesn't.

It's seems that I am not the only one having this "problem" and I was wondering if any of you asked your BMW dealership about it and what was the answer they gave you.

Thanks,

BMW SA had a look twice.First they said they could not identify the noise.Second time they had the car on a ramp and localised the noise coming from the front coil springs as they wound up on turning from side to side.Tried a lubricant spray but did not work. The noise was definitely a lot less if the coil spring was pulled downwards by hand while turning.I think Boneman might just have the answer for the problem!!

Mine is going for a service in a month and I will ask the SA to have a look.

Will keep you posted.

steering clicking sound

I've had this issue on my '15 M235i xdrive, went to dealer in May, August, and September each time changing something but it still made noise. finally they kept it for a week and fixed it. I did test with foreman twice to show noise. I was pretty adamant about the sound Heard. Clicking when turning slowly either stationary or under 5mph at either lock position. They ended up replacing darn near everything with front steering/suspension. Struts, shocks, springs, upper strut mounts, sway link bars, pads, bolts/nuts, rubber material, you name it. its got 29,000 miles on it and drives like new now. I bought it CPO. can't imagine how much out of warranty that would have cost...

Can confirm ticking happens when steering from full left to full right or vice versa.

There is a bulletin for this. They can install friction material between the hubs and wheels. It takes care of the noise.

For future reference for anyone who has this issue, I had it on my new M240i and after 4 trips to the dealer and having these installed (and other things done that I can't recall off the top of my head) nothing fixed it. I ended up getting aftermarket wheels, Dinan springs, spacers, and Dinan camber plates and now I haven't heard a sound since then. So if you're going to mod anyway as I was and you're getting no luck at the dealer there's a chance it'll go away once modded. I purposely wanted to get the clicking fixed before modding so they couldn't blame me but I bit the bullet since I saw no fix coming my way and glad I did... That clicking was driving me up the wall.
