Anyone have experience hardwiring a dash cam?

Anything to be aware of? Any good guides for our cars? Looking to wire front and rear

My last car had an add-a-fuse hardwired to the cabin fuse box but on the 2 I have the cord plugged into the outlet in the trunk; no need to hard-wire.

This is what I did too. I've got a 12' cable running from the trunk outlet to a power bank under the driver's seat, and then the dash cam is plugged into that so it'll stay powered when the car is turned off.

It's a BIT more expensive to do it it that way but you don't have to mess around with your fuse box or install anything you can't remove from the car in less than 5 minutes if you need to.

I think some folks have used the switched power in the rain sensor enclosure. I don’t think they used the sensor power but some other power that’s there.

Use the rain sensor connector. It's on a 5 amp circuit. Total draw on that circuit, in my 2018 230i, with everything on, is around 1.5 amps. I have a BlackVue DR900S dashcam also wired to the connector (not shown in video).
