E85 mix + additive needed?

Question for those running an e85 mix (e30). I read it was recommended to also add some ethanol safeguard additive. Is this needed for the b58?

Thanks!

I’ve been running e30 for the last 7500 miles or so and I don’t use any additive.

I'm in the same boat as B58togo, I've had no issues even with some colder weather here in NY. My tuner recommended running a tank of regular gas every couple months but nothing beyond that.

The issue is the Methanol absorbs moisture, ie, water... So if you use it as a DD, it'll probably be ok. If it's a weekend fun car, or it's going to sit a while, over the long term you might into issues with E85. Also, if the vehicle is older, like a CPO and you're starting E85 on a car with some mileage, the E85 is going to dislodge any tarnish or residue in the fuel system. Typically, you'd change your fuel filter soon after because it was get nice and clogged. This is my experience on other older engines, make/models.

The DI engines are prone to soot as well. So I would run some type of cleaner every 3rd tank or so. You're already wasting $ on the E85, so what's a few dollars more, hahaha certainly won't hurt.

My $.02
