We can all probably drive one, but can we drive it fast enough to generate enough downforce to make it perform the way it is intended.

Here’s the best video I could find on this topic. It can be done, at least by some. Well worth a watch. Check it out.

It goes to show that being smooth while being fast is not easy, the car is fighting you every step of the way.

Would be a lot of fun to try and tail an F1 driver though. It would be really interesting to see what lines they take.
Agree 100% because achieving both speed and smoothness requires a deep understanding of vehicle dynamics and precise control, making it a challenging skill to master. Exactly this shows who is a real pro

If you're prepared to go in at F1 drivers pace fine but there is no backing out if the driver suddenly thinks that they are coming in too hot.
Certainly helps if some go-kart and performance car driving course experience is taken beforehand to quicken and hone reaction times.

I used to go shifter karting, and man was it fun. The G forces were so brutal that I bruised my ribs, even while wearing a rib protector. And yeah, reaction times are shortened so much as compared to tracking my road car.
