MP Tips w/Intermediate pipes on OE Exhaust?

Long title, but here is what I've found:

Removed the black tips from M235 F23. No problem. Looked at exhaust pipe and there is a pin on the top (12 o'clock) that needs a slot match in the intermediate pipe. Problem. There is no slot in the intermediate pipe. The MP tips have to have the middle pipe to fit on the OE exhaust.

Has anyone else found this? What parts did you use? I have the BMW intermediate pipe part #18302287042

That was my first thought, but seriously is that what people have done?

Well, BMW dealer was able to pull up the install instructions. They call for cutting the tailpipe back behind the locating pin.

I'm going to measure and see if I can leave it the same length and cut off the pin in case I want to put the OE tips back on. Hope this will help someone when they search this later!!
