New M235i - Drove it home!

I posted this on another forum that does not seem so active! This forum is packed! Let me know what you think!

I'm going to pick up a new '15 M235i tomorrow AM. It's pretty loaded out at $56k+. Getting what I think is a great lease on it but I'm not really familiar with this platform.

Any known or common issues to look for from the beginning? Any specific things I should add to it? For me, I saw right away it needs M Perf brake/gas pedals. How are these on wheels/tires? Does the BMW tire/wheel policy seem like a good idea? I've bought them but never had an issue (good!). And what is the story with the red seatbelt holder? Didn't see anything called out on the build sheet.

I'm fired up for this car. Should be a great compromise as the steering should be easy for my wife in comfort mode compared to the hydraulic steering I loved and she hated and I can dial up anything I want above that with sport/sport+. (carefully of course!)

Basically, if anyone has any issues I could point to that would be appreciated. Otherwise I'll add some pics and thoughts. Unfortunately I'm trailering it home as it's RWD and Michelin PSS tires. Headed to snow zone for another month; hope less.

EDIT: it's a convertible by the way if that matters!

I have had my '15 coupe (manual, rwd) for over a year. No issues. I have been lurking on and off in this forum for quite a while. Can't say there are any known issues or trends that I have noticed.

I think one of the biggest complaints I have seen on this forum is a lot of People think the HK sound system (and the HI-FI) is absolute garbage and not worth the 900 or so dollars. I personally don't mind it too much, but may upgrade later on.

As for the tire and wheel warranty, you'll get a lot on either side. I went with the policy as I didn't think I was going to upgrade my wheels and the piece of mind was worth it. Now that I kind of want to upgrade my wheels I'm starting to have second thoughts. It's really up to you and if you think you'll need to use it one day and like the piece of mind.

Also, not sure what you mean about the red seatbelt holder. Mine is black with only the push button colored red.

My 2 is 1.5 years old and has been outstanding for quality. Really nothing to be on the lookout for regarding actual problems...maybe a slight rattle I had and was fixed. But, here's one optional thing to check out. A couple of months ago, BMW engineering added some sound insulation. A few of us retrofitted it with Parts Department help at a very low price, and it does make a difference. Read this:

Thanks for the reply. Here is the red seatbelt holder. Hadn't seen this on others or did I just miss it?

Hmm, never seen that before. I test drove a F23 and it didn't have those red seatbelt holders so I have no idea what they are. Maybe aftermarket?

May not have noticed, but it's like that in most/all cars for visibility of where to put the latch plate.

Got it....my office is in Troy and I was going to keep my eyes out for you. Birmingham..."little town"....LOL. Restaurant central, you mean!! My screen name also started on MBWorld back in 2008! I bought another "Sport" model with a stick, so it stuck!

Don't regret RWD...with some Blizzak WS80 or XIcesi3, you'll do very well if you put it on the road in the winter and it feels better the rest of the year. As I bought mine and am concerned about all the road salt, my Subaru on snowflake-labeled all-terrain tires takes over!

If you don't spring for the wheel and tire ins from BMW yku should be able to get just tire ins from a local shop for $100.

If you were buying it, I'd question you as to why you're opting for a 1 year old "new" vehicle, but since you are leasing rather than buying, it really doesn't matter and I assume you getting a great rate as a result of that.
Looks like a really nice build and you'll love the ragtop.

Yep. They are simply protective covers that should be removed during the PDI.

I hope you're getting a good base price too. Loaded 2015 M235i coupes were down into the high 40's three months ago when I was looking. 56 seems very high, even for a vert.

Ended up driving home yesterday; long story. $56k+ was MSRP. Sale price was under $48k; I'll have to find details.

At this point we plan to buy it out if we like it, so this was a good route to try it. Lease ended up just under $600 per month with only 1st payment/taxes/plates due. I'm pretty happy with the deal compared to the offers for the '16s that were in the high $600s to mid $700s per month for a comparable car. Got the BMW tire/wheel also. BMWCCA discounted it at the dealer. Not sure if it was a great buy, but $1500 for 5 years seemed like a good gamble after feeling the road on the wheels and PSS tires.

I'll try to post pics later or tomorrow. Great drive when it was 50s and dry. Not so fun after dark in the low 30s! I did not plan to push the PSS into those temps but all is safe in the garage now!

Under 48 is much better.

Yeah, PSSs don't like the cold. The first u-turn on my street caught me out the first few times after getting my 228 THP in November. Very happy for the warmer weather.

True! Not only don't they like it for the loss of traction, when they develop very specific cold-weather compound cracking, Michelin will not warranty it! Had this chat with them personally after my dealer had me sign a waiver about using them below 45 degrees F.

Thankfully it doesn't get that cold here more than a few weeks a year, but still good to know. Must be a pain for you guys, though.

Yes is it....caused me to trade my PSS for "almost-as-good" AS3 to get me through the cold dry times before/after the snow season. Was sad to see them go, but they weren't usable long enough each year.

Yep. This is the toy car for good weather. Just got stuck and had to drive it. No plan to do that regularly this time of year. It's tucked away for a month or so.

A few delivery pics. It's snowing today, so might be a while before some good lakeshore pics!

BTW, anyone paint the rear bumper insert body color? I know a lot of diffuser options are out there, just curious about the paint option.

I will probably do this on my next car too...Summer Sport Tire season just too short up here in the North...
