How close or far the wheels it’s from the hub. Makes finding good wheels that fit tricky.

He wants a square setup with 255s. That would allow him to rotate any tire to any corner, and it would match tire width to the car's power better than BMW chose to do it.

I wanted the same, but the unusual offset in the rear (read: good luck finding a wide choice of wheels) put paid to that unless I was willing to make modifications I either didn't want made or didn't want to pay for. Since the 255s were the main priority, I ended up with the wheels in my signature: 18X9½ ET58 & 17X9 ET42.

The whole exercise was a PITA. It's as though BMW doesn't know that it has buyers who modify their cars for looks or performance. Instead, they leave little room for wider tires in the rear and cap it off with a rear offset that's a total outlier.

They also do it, intentionally (imo) to help sell the M2/3/4 lol. Want wide wheels and lots of grip, please enter the M2, that's how I see it. There are few 9" options, but the Apex 18x9 et42 is a great square setup and can use semi-aggressive camber settings for street use and still get decent DD tire wear.

The modification thing is not a culture, it's a sub-culture. The number of people who modify their 2s with very big wheels is very small in context, and the car is ultimately quite small so there is simply no room. Why would they make the car uncomfortably large for everyone? It's like asking why the 2 series isn't available with a line lock and drag radials from the factory.

well if you want aftermarket wheels that can fit decent sized tires and not poke like a fucking monster truck, it is a problem.

the most common 18x8.5 et35 and 18x9.5 et45 from companies like VMR are terrible. the best you will do on stock suspension is 225 on the front and the back will poke so much it is actually comical. i had those exact sizes of m359 wheels on my f22 and went back to stock because the wheel poke in the rear was so bad. shame, because the wheels themselves were gorgeous.

I'm running Alutec Drive 18X8 et 43 at all four corners. The wheel offset allows for me to run 245/35R18 at all four corners with absolutely no need for spacers, camber mods, or fender mods. IMO, what the 2 series needs the most is more grip up front and the wider 1.5" wider 245s should help a lot plus the sidewalls are stiffer. Traction in the rear is helped significantly by the addition of a mechanical LSD. In an ideal world, I'd run 255s in the back, but the MP LSD has done wonders for rear axle grip so I'm fine with it. If I were to track the car, I'd buy a set of 17X9 rims and proper track tires. For the street, a 245 square setup is fine for a car like the M235.

To make the more common 8.5" and 9.5" wide VMR rims work on the 2 series requires you to run very stretched 225s in the front which looks silly. I don't like how stretched my OEM MPSS 225/40R18 tires look on my 8" wide Alutecs so I can't imagine how much worse they look on a .5" wider rim. Plus the stretch causes the tires to become quite a bit more darty.

We're talking past each other here; perhaps my post belonged in the Tracking / Autocrossing section?

If you find a 17X9 that will work in the back, please let us know.

When I was looking, and square 17X9 is what I wanted, the only choice I could find was custom Forgestars. Rather than pay for those, I settled for the opposite of what I wanted: each tire has a dedicated corner. It's workable, just not ideal.

Coming from a 2015 228 to a 2019 m240...

The storage bin under the steering wheel was changed to a button panel so that storage is gone.

The glasses storage in front of the cupholders is also gone so now all that stuff has to go in the tiny armrest storage.

The cupholders are actually smaller in diameter and most tall skinny mugs that fit will rub against the dashboard jutting out.

Mirror turn signals are blinding, the parking sensors are slow to respond, you can put the top down with the key fob but you have to literally be standing next to the car, but other than that I'm happy.

Now the XM that doesn't allow to go beyond channel 184 ... supposedly it needs a software update. A 3year old car needs a radio module software update? Really?

Similar experience. I put sunglasses on shelf in back part of driver door. Same spot I used in 135i. Cupholders...grrrr...I ordered smaller thermos, which I hope helps. Big one with sealed lid works well in another angled door slot. Black electric tape on mirror tips, until I find a better solution. I'm not even sure the parking sensors will turn on if you don't go in reverse or manually hit the button; I hit the button now. Haven't tried keyfob top down...is it Spring, yet?

Parking sensors have never worked going forward in this model unless you either reverse first or push the magic button. I have no idea why, since they work in our X3 without the button. However, on the X3, there is no indication on the dash that the steering wheel heater has been activated, which I have never understood and which drives me nuts. What one hand giveth, the other hand taketh away. Crazy Germans!!

This 17-page PDF by ECS Tuning does a very good job explaining wheel offsets and backspacing: http://bd8ba3c866c8cbc330ab-7b26c6f3...l_OffsetR1.pdf

Weird, my 2018 has the storage bin by the steering wheel and there was no change for this coming year.

The bin in front of the cup holders was changes for the sliding cover from the 3 series, as everyone complained that the bin was too downmarket

Parking sensors would be forever going off in heavy traffic, no?

I went to look at my 2014 M235i and it too only goes to 184. I called Sirius and they at first said that it should get other channels over 184 but a reset didn't allow it.

Then they got a better tech who said that you only get to 184 with the Select package and if I wanted to upgrade to All Access it was $85 for the rest of the year. I told them NO as it's not worth it to me as I never would use streaming.

But I don't get 133 NY Weather and News either. That was strange but they said I needed all access for that too.

Sirius is already close to not worth it for me so I guess up to 184 and no NY Weather is all I am in for. At least it has NASCAR for my trips home from Summit Point on Sunday summer afternoons.

Just a point of logic - if pressing the button is too arduous whilst parking in a forward direction, how does the car know it's about to be parked? Since it hasn't yet come to a stop and been put into reverse. What is the dynamic difference between pulling into a parking space and inching forward into the range of a parked car in front, and pulling up in a queue of traffic, and inching forward into the range of a stationary car in front? Just wondering how the X3 does this. Super-intelligent, if so. Does the car have other driver aid capability such as radar?

Well what I suspect is that my free 3 trial mths ended (bought car used) and I had All Access then it went to Select.

No Sirus Tech could figure that out for almost an hour.
I just canceled mine since is not worth ....

BTW, I checked my other cars with XM and they go from 1 to 258 so this must be a BMW thing ...

Thanks for the info!
