Before and After (Video) - Stock Versus Dinan Midpipe, VRSF Downpipes, AP Intake, BM3
https://youtu.be/1x-D4DeQMbQ
The video is done!! comparison of stock m240i versus how it sounds now with VRSF downpipes, Dinan Midpipe, AP Short Ram Intake, and BM3 Stage 2 91 flash. Showing comparison for startup, eco pro, comfort, sport, sport+, and shots of the intake sound with the hood open (basically everything you need to hear except from inside the cabin). Enjoy

It sounds amazing when in the 4000-6000 RPM range, but when around 2000, it sounds like a rusty old go cart. So, if i want to keep the car loud, but try and get it back to the original exhaust note/tone, do I put in my stock midpipe with the resonators, or do I put in the stock downpipe w/ the cat?

Again, personally I'd keep the downpipe on because of the power increase and put the resonated midpipe on. When I started I put the M Performance muffler on then eventually cut out the 2nd resonator, which really didn't make a difference. Then I put on the downpipe and midpipe together...so I can't really tell you which made it a lot louder, but I'm assuming it was the midpipe.

I believe the downpipe creates more volume, maybe a catted one would reduce some of the rasp/drone? Hard to say, exhaust modifications are rarely an exact science. |

I have the VRSF catless DP and the stock catback and it sounds amazing to me. It's not super loud, but the turbo sounds are increased and it is probably 20-30% louder than stock. I can post a video if you want.

So I recorded this with my phone mounted in my shoe, the mic doesn't do it justice but it still sounds good in the video. Not nearly as loud as yours though.

My issue is the cheap go-cart sounding noises lol, makes me feel like i’m no longer in a bmw.. All i want is the same noise as before, but to have it louder. Not for the noise quality to change |

It's close to stock, but there are a lot more burbles and you can hear the turbo spool a lot more. Overall it is about 20-30% louder. I was originally planning on doing a catback or mid pipes but I am so happy with this I don't think I'm going to do any of that.

I'm still stuck as to what to do. If you guys could help with this asap it would be much appreciated as I'm taking my car back to the shop tmw morning.
To make it louder than stock but to keep the true sound of the exhaust from sounding cheap/lawn mower-ish, do I go stock DP with the Dinan mid pipe, or VRSF catless downpipe with stock mid pipe? In essense, the main question is: what's causing not the volume, but the tone change? Is it taking out the resonators which causes that, or is it taking out the catalytic converter? Thank you guys

I don't have any of the raspy sort of sound unless it's a cold start situation. I can't say what effect the BM3 would have on sound, though. |

BTW i put the stock midpipe back in and kept the dp, so now its just stock exhaust with a vrsf catless dp and ap short ram intake.
Sounds 1000000x better. Wish it was just a tad bit louder, but i take this sound over the obnoxious lawn mower sound that i had when the straight midpipe was in any day

lol ER catles downpipe + MPPSK exhaust = insanity with BM3 agg map. Sounds alright from 2-3k rpm (drone), but after that its the most glorious sound ever!
