Service plan or Warranty?

I've been offered a 5yr service plan and 5yr warranty by the BMW dealership I got my m235i from but there's only so much i'm willing to be out of pocket right now as both these require a 2.4k-2.7k upfront payment each. If I had to pick one or the other, which do you reckon is going to be more useful/utilised during my ownership of the vehicle? The N55s are reliable and I'm gravitating towards the service plan at the moment.

EDIT: Had a closer look, and the 5 yr warranty for the age and class of the m235i make it a Cat C, so the warranty actually cost a whopping $4,270 incl GST.

On that note, for owners who bought a pre-owned or m235i out of warranty, what is the most commonly travelled route? Just major servicing with an indie mech, DIY regular oil changes and no manuf. warranty?

Year/Mileage on your M235i? For that kind of $ I don't think either makes sense.

FWIW I have a 16' M235i xDrive 34k miles and my lease is up in March. The buyout is 29k and I'm leaning towards buying it out. I'll only have 1yr warranty & maintenance left and I'm ok with that. I change the oil every 5k and did a break in change at 1200 miles.

Since I've owned it I've had the muffler valve, trunk struts replaced. Front pads and rotors as well all under warranty. Aside from the oil changes I replaced the tires in March of this year. The car has been solid so I really don't think spending 2-3k (or more) for extended warranty is worth it.

Motorline BMW, up in Brisbane, wanted $6,015 for the three year extended warranty on my 2015 M235i. They charge the same price as they do for an M3 or M4 because it has the same engine (even though it doesn't).

Anyway, for $6,000 I decided to take my chances! If I did take it, and had a claim, they would probably deny coverage due to the mods anyway.

Not sure if either are required. When I bought mine new they offered free servicing as part of the deal, and I said no thanks and negotiated a bigger discount.

I'm a very negative towards dealer servicing, I prefer my cars to be serviced by an experienced specialist over an apprentice, their package are generally extremely overpriced.

As for warranty I don't think I would be bothered when buying used either... car is only worth X amount and warranty seem expensive for what it is.. they don't cover much anyway

not worth it. I've got a 2015 228i with 55k miles with no issues (knock on wood). once I got out of the covered maintenance im doing oil changes for $20 a piece through FCP Euro and their lifetime warranty (covers oil as well) and can cover basic replacement and maintenance on my own.

even if you pay for the maintenance out of pocket it is unlikely to attend up to $2.5k. you do have to take some risk of something massive breaking, but there are multiple high mileage cars with zero issues. you're at 23k miles and have nooothing to worry about.
