I did not get any rubbing. I also checked the inner fender panel clearance with the wheels at lock and the car at static height. I did not see anything the tires could touch when the wheels were at static lock or where I'd estimate the wheels would go at full upward travel. Keep in mind I did not drive the car aggressively with the 245s up front so I can't confirm there might be a rub issue under extreme driving with the wheels turned. I don't see how it would be possible, but I can't confirm for sure given my limited testing. With that said, I'm not concerned about running the 245s upfront and will be doing so this coming spring for sure.
I have the same wheels with a square setup - I am able to track / autocross / mountain carving with no issues using 245/35/18.

Awesome. The Leggera HLTs are 18x8 ET45, so slightly closer to the Strut than you guys, but according to the thread below (post #12), I should be all good with spacers to keep it flush as well.

Update Time

I mounted up my square 245/35R18 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tire setup yesterday. They fit perfectly on the front axle with no rubbing any other clearance issues with the wheels cranked fully or during hard turns.

Appreciate the update. This is the way I am going to go too. It is good to know that there are no issues. I am really happy with the Alutec wheels on my car both from a quality perspective and how good they look.

I know this an old thread, but these are excellent images.

If you used PS, what tool did you use to obscure the license plate?

Thanks.

Update:

I've got 400 miles on the tires now and they are fully broken in. The temps in Kansas City have been in the 60s and 70s so I've felt confident in pushing the car pretty hard over the past few days. They difference in the front grip and the overall confidence at all times through a turn is so much better than the 225s. The tires are not BMW spec like the stock MPSS tires thus the sidewalls are stiffer which makes a difference.

I was worried the extra width would make the feel a little more numb, but I'm not picking that up. Now I need to be careful that the improved front axle grip doesn't make me so confident that I overdrive the rear axle.

Those wheels look terrific! I just came over to BMW and need new wheels on my 428i xDrive Grand Coupe after a brutal Nebraska winter. I've hit so many pot holes that my OEM wheels are trashed. This tread was instrumental in helping make my choice! Thanks for posting it

Last night we test fitted Apex Aero 7 et45 wheels on the fronts with 245/40/18 SLICKS!!!! no rub on the suspension strut (KW suspension). he has camber plates at 3 degrees so is rubbing on the far inside and bottom of the wheel well walls. He is going to reduce the camber to 2 degrees to fix this. Keep in mind this is a 40 profile tire and a slick!!! street tires at 35 profile should be hella smaller!

IT FITS! *thats what she said

2/19/20 Update

Since TinyPic is no longer around, I've updated the first post in this thread to included photos of the wheels.

How's the driving experience on those 245s? Do you notice any sidewall flex while cornering, for example? I'm considering a similar setup but don't like a wiggly ride.

I know what you're talking about. There is no wiggly ride, slow steering response, etc with MP4S tires. It might have something to do with the fact that 245/35r18 MP4S is an XL rated tire which means it has a stiffer sidewall than the OEM BMW Star 225/40r18 MPSS. It's also why the 245 MP4S don't suffer from the severe sidewall wear like the stock tires.

I know a lot of people(me included) are running higher pressures up front to compensate for the sidewall wear with the stock MPSS setup, what PSI are you at for your fronts? I am assuming 32F/38R? I plan to do 235 up front and those are also XL with the MP4S

For the street (I don't track the car), I run 32 psi front and 34 psi rear. I find 38 psi in the rear to be a bit excessive. I think BMW did that induce more understeer as well. Either way, a 225 up front is way too narrow, especially once you go to a wider than stock wheel in the front. The stretch makes things even worse.

Im on 8.5 in the front and the stock pressures simply arent enough, 36 seems to be the sweet spot. Really looking forward to being able to drop both down.

First, XutvJet thanks for starting this thread and posting all of the info/pictures, like others have said, this thread is super helpful and has had a huge impact on my wheel/tire selection.

I'm currently running the stock square 7.5" wheels with 225 summer runflats. Very happy they're finally worn out and now I'm thinking about a square 245 setup. I really wanted the OZ Leggera HLT's because I think they look amazing and are only ~19lbs, but I just can't justify spending that much on wheels living in Southeast Michigan.

I've been looking at the FlowOne Race Spec (terrible name) F4 wheels on TireRack since the look is about as close as I can get to the Leggera style - but they're much cheaper and pretty light (~20lbs). They are 18x8 ET42 and I'm leaning towards the Continental ExtremeContact Sport 245/35/18 because they seem to be at least 90% as good as the MPS4S at about 80% of the cost.

The Conti's list the same section width as the MPS4S's at 9.8" but have a 0.2" wider tread width (8.6" vs 8.4"). I'm thinking fitment should be very similar since section width should be all that matters, right? Also the 42mm offset should push the tire 1mm farther away from the strut than in OP's verified fitment at ET43. Any insight on possible fitment issues?

Also wanted to see if anyone out there has any experience with these FlowOne wheels. All the reviews I can find seem to be positive but I'm still a little uneasy about purchasing them. The other option at almost the same price, size (18x8 et42), and weight would be the Enkei Raijin. Definite a more reputable company, but I'm not in love with the looks. Any info would be appreciated!

Here are the silver Alutec Drive's on my M235i 'vert, 7.5Jx17 with 225/45-17 winter tyres (Pirelli Winter Sottozero S3). The underlying design theme is simlar to the OP's:

I've replaced the Alutec hubs with the BMW Floating Hubcaps. I've had these on for the last four winters and they've stood up well. They're certainly much easier to clean than the standard BMW wheels.

Thanks. A few things if I'm not too late here:

1) Spend the money on the MPS4. They are the best street tires for the money. Period. M2 owners that got Continental ExtremeContact Sport as factory equipment were pissed because of the difference in traction compared to those that got the MPSS tires as stock. The MPS4 is a step up in traction for sure. My M235 came with MPSS.

2) With the wheel offset and Continental ExtremeContact Sport width, I think you should still be okay. The tightest clearance point is the tire and strut body. I can almost squeeze my pinky in the space and that distance never changes during driving/turning. You're setup might be 1 to 2 mm closer to the strut.

3) I had hyper silver 18X8.5 Enkei Raijins with 235/40R18s on my 2012 WRX. Those were sexy wheels, especially if you replace the center cap with a flat one. It makes a big difference. The wheels were strong, light and the finish robust.

4) Before the pandemic hit, I was eyeballing FlowOne Race Spec F2 in blacked machined with dark tint as my summer wheels and the Alutecs become my winter wheels. I like the F4 styling, but feel that the wheels don't have enough visual mass for the 2 series body.

Is anyone running this setup with AWD/XDrive? It seems like everyone in this post is RWD so not sure 245/35-18 on 18x8 +43 will work square on my Xdrive. Heard there was less shock room in the front? Or am I wrong? Hmmmmm.... Anyone?
