Touch-Up Paint Advice?
Some clown dinged my door over the weekend. Must have swung it fully open, because it left a scratch ~ 2mm wide 1 inch long on my rear quarter panel.
I'm going to have a "paintless dent removal" done in the morning, but am still up in arms about what to for the paint. The scratch broke the surface, so I will need to be able to build up a layer to match the rest of the panel. I've read that the BMW touch up paint is of poor quality in both consistency/ease of use and in matching the original color. I also read about Dr. Colorchip, but that sounds like it's more for very small nicks. It does sound easy to work with and able to build layers, but also read that even with proper prep, the product wears away? Would like to hear feedback on this product if anyone has used it before. Color is Estoril Blue II (Believe this is paint code B45) Please Advise |

Try the Dr Color Chip system, It may work out. My detailer used it for small nicks on the front fender from rocks. Call them and ask..
Is it bad enough you can't hit it with a machine polisher to dull/remove it.? |

Nope, paint is missing. Left the car with the dent guy this morning so at least the dent is getting sorted out. His opinion is to have a body shop do a touch-up and not mess with the DIY products.

Agreed on above. No insult intended, but if you can afford the car, you can afford to get it done right. A bodge job on a scratch will bother you every time you get out and see it...wash it...wax it...or show it at Cars&Coffee. Been there done that--a pro on something like this is worth it.

How does a body shop repair a smallish scratch or messed up paint in the middle of a large panel ?
Repaint whole panel or just spot paint and work on blending and smoothing the spot to the surrounding area? |
