Sit in the driveway in park (neutral if manual), engine running, windows up.
Set mode to "Comfort"
Press the accelerator to hold 2500 rpm.
Toggle between "Comfort" and "Sport" while holding steady at 2500 rpm.

Having owned both a 2015 and 2016 M235i, I can confirm they both continue to have ASD.

Thanks for the info. I have it. Just took a 1200 mile trip to Las Vegas and back and had lots of time to check things out on the car.

I think I am also in the minority but when I test drove the M235i I absolutely loved the ASD. I had an active autowerke exhaust in my 135i and it sounded great, but I still liked ASD in the M235i better.

Excited to have it on mine when it comes in!

From a 1951 C.M. Kornbluth story:
Barlow saw through a rearview mirror a tremendous
exhaust filled with brilliant white sparkles.....

"Do you like it?" yelled the psychist.
"It's terrific!" Barlow yelled back. "It's-" He was shut up as the car pulled
out from the bay into the road with a great voo-ooo-ooom! A gale roared past Barlow's head, though the windows seemed to be closed; the impression of speed was terrific. He located the speedometer on the dashboard and saw it climb past 90, 100, 150, 200.

"Fast enough for me," yelled the psychist, noting that Barlow's face fell
in response.......

Watching them, Barlow began to wonder if he knew what a kilometer was, exactly. They seemed to be traveling so slowly, if you ignored the roaring air past your ears and didn't let the speedy lines of the dreamboats fool you. He would have sworn they were really crawling along at twenty-five, with occasional spurts up to thirty.......

Barlow stiffened as he realized that the rush of air past his ears began just a brief, unreal split second before the car was actually moving.......

This is the best way to compare.

To me it's very unobtrusive, and not really a big deal. At first I couldn't even tell I had it, until someone pointed out that you can hear it when switching back and forth between Comfort and Sport mode. Now I do notice it, but just barely.

That said, it is artificial. With the windows open in sport mode, you can hear that exhaust "burble" when you let off the throttle, but there's no such sound coming from the ASD. It's more like a steady drone that changes pitch with rpm changes.

Good quote.

Thanks for reminding me of this prophetic story. I fancy they're marching just a little faster now.

A question about asd

I have a 228i with paddles (the only way it comes in 2016). I would like a louder exhaust note throughout the rev range because it generally revs so quietly and smoothly, I have to check the tach to see where I am rev wise. Also, with paddles and electric steering, there is no tactile feedback like you would have with a stick and mechanical steering. So, can you increase the volume level by coding the asd? Also, can you apply the asd to comfort and sport modes? I would like to do this using the 228i sounds rather than switching to a different engine type.

Lastly, do you guys think increasing the volume will help with my "where the yellow/red line problem?

Not sure the volume setting on the ASD does anything.

You should try the m235 sound that's your best bet. M4 is quite annoying as the sound system is not the same and doesn't sound good at all

ASD is on all the time but it only goes loud on sport mode
