2020 M240i Recall
My 2020 M240i is sitting at the Port in Baltimore with “stopped for recall” status on it.
BMW said “driver and passenger knee airbags” Anyone know what that is and what the recall entails? Long delay? Thanks, Wayne |

Don't think it's been released yet or the parts to fix the issue. Had my car at the dealer two weeks ago and they told my about this recall and when I picked it up they said they were unable to do it yet and to come back when I get the recall letter.

I read somewhere the airbag inflator unit can be faulty and inadvertently blow metal shrapnel through into the airbag, potentially causing failure of the airbag or direct projectile injury to the occupant. Something to that effect. I hope my 2018 M240i was not affected. I believe this recall affects some 2018 and 2019 production as well.

You just missed it.
I get the recall stuff.. it happens. It’s just frustrating that nobody can give me a time frame on parts being available. I asked could it be tomorrow? Yes. I also asked could it be in two months? Yes. |

Haha.. well, yeah. I understand. However, BMW is not making their own airbags. They are likely at the mercy of their supplier to provide them with a solution/timeline, which I'm guessing they don't have just yet or else they would have provided the appropriate messaging to the dealers. As someone in your shoes, it is certainly going to be frustrating. Just hang in there!

Dang, looks like I’m in the recall category, build date of Sept 2018. Haven’t received any letter yet; they’re probably taking care of the ones not delivered yet first, makes sense. Looks like these F22 cars are rare, only 2660 produced in the US from Jan 2018-April 2019

I can't say really. Said June 10 maybe. Will call if earlier. Mid June was in the conversation. I think maybe it came from the VPC. "Waiting on parts" was quoted. I've got another vehicle, but the wait is bumming me out.

My 2020 M240ix arrived in Baltimore a week ago Sunday. My dealer tells me that they were told by BMW that it could be as long as July before my car will be released from the port.

July for an update is ridiculous. I didn’t want to go the used route but am going to cancel this M240 order and get a used M2 |

I'm dying over here!!! It's funny, I thought tracking it through production at the factory and then on the ship over the pond was tough...but having it just sit at the port only 2 hours from my house awaiting some arbitrary part to fix the knee airbags with no idea of when said part will arrive is absolutely excruciating.
