Grey M Performance Brakes on 230?

Hi All,

My wife will be in the market for a new vehicle in the not too distant future and seems to have zoned in on a new 2 series GC. I'm trying to steer her away from it, so I was trying to think of "fun" cars that I could show her. She's currently in an F30 and thinks the G20 is too large now and is set on a sedan even though no one ever uses the back seats. She loves my car (or at least that's what she tells me!), so it got me thinking why wouldn't she love a new 230xi? A 240 would totally be wasted on her as we test drove a 335i before she got her 328i and she thought the 335i was "way too fast." So I did a bit of searching and there is a local one that looks very similar to my car, but while clicking through photos, I was thrown off by what appears to be a grey m performance caliper. I know these came on other vehicles in the 3/4 series lineup, but I didn't think this was available on a current gen 2 series and that the THP (which is now gone) was the only way to get the upgraded blue brakes. Pic is below.

The earlier 235's had grey brakes IIRC, perhaps they are going back to that? But if that is a front caliper, it is a whole new version - they were 4-pistons, even if grey.

Wasn't this same caliper/rotor the base unit for the 4 series for several years?

My friend sent me this link to a breakdown on the brake packages offered, and I think it'll help answer your question:

That's exactly what I thought, so I was wondering what the heck it is doing on a 230ix! Glad I'm not going completely crazy!
