BMW somehow thinks they coded out my exhaust rattle?

I have a 2017 M240i with 48,XXX miles, so I wanted to get all the little things fixed before the bumper to bumper transitions to the lesser CPO coverage.

One item was an exhaust rattle that happens once every week or two on cold start. It sounds like a lawnmower picked up a piece of metal.

Per the screenshot from my digital repair order, they programmed/coded a control unit. Anyone have insight on what this actually does for the rattling hardware?

Just like how you can code it yourself, they probably coded it to stay open.

My 2018 LCI model has the exact same issue, but I never bothered to get it looked at. Like yours, only happens once in a while. Then again, my sample size is smaller because my car only gets driven once every week or so. Might bother me a bit more if I drove it every day. It does sound pretty horrible when it happens though. I think exhaust flaps are super annoying. I will likely replace with the M Performance exhaust and fix the problem that way since it does not even have a silly flap to begin with. That and a res delete mid pipe are long overdue anyway...

This is exactly what they did! No more exhaust flap upon cold start. Not sure if it engages while at speed or not.

Once you code it open it just stays open, mine has been coded open as well, no issues.
