I'm happy that it does not appear to have a 4-series bucky bucktooth grill.

Good point. Perhaps we can make a deal w/ the devil to trade an extra dose of murder hornets and an extended hurricane season for no more f'ing up the grills.

"Autocar understands that the full-fat M2, expected in 2022, will keep a six-cylinder powertrain. Specifically, it will use a detuned version of the S58 3.0-litre unit found in the BMW X3 M and X4 M, and soon to be offered in the latest M3 and M4. "

Best news I've read in awhile!

I thought the same at the beginning but I grew to like it, somehow. Not sure how it's gonna look on the M3/4 with horizontal "slats" but I think the new 4er looks pretty good.

The next generation 2 Series will be built only in the BMW plant at San Luis Potosi, Mexico, alongside the 3 Series now sold in the U.S. The building has no idea where it is and the assembly processes are determined by the same BMW Manufacturing team that governs all plants worldwide.

Since they killed off Euro Delivery anyway, I guess it doesn't matter that it's assembled in Mexico. Still, I'll miss the old made-in-Deutschland BMWs and ED. There was something great about driving my m235i at 130 mph on the autobahn.

yes i was hoping to finally do a factory tour and feel the moment of driving off the delivery center with the car waiting for me. so sad. so so sad... for north americans was it not limited to only us losing this priviledge.

isnt the g42 going to be significantly larger than what its replacing, since its based on the clar platform which the present 3 series is on. i think adding 3 inches -not much beyond that, to the g42s length, lower its roofline 1 inch wouldnt hurt its looks, stemming the carry over of the current m240 generation from looking a bit stubby and, rather abbreviated abruptly at the rear.

that new 4 series got extended by several inches, replacing the present car that was also extended a few inches when it came out. way too long of a '3 series' coupe to me... and heavy. more of a grand saloon... kinda reminds me of long boaty coupes american makers used to regularly do...

lincoln mark 7 i think they were called.

My first post on the forum. Guess it is necessary for me in order to post my own thread. I am considering upgrading from a 2008 E90 335xi to a M240i. Think I would get a 2021 for reliability due to it being the final product before next MY.

I think they eliminated European Delivery since the cars will no longer be manufactured in Europe. No point shipping a car from Mexico to Germany only to send it back to the US in two weeks.

130 mph? You either managed to drive A LOT in your time there or you completely ignored the break-in procedures (<100mph for the first 1,200 miles).

Maybe, but there are some drivers (not many, of course) who spend extended periods in Europe and have their car shipped over so they can drive what they want. I looked into it at one point many years ago and was surprised at how modest the cost was. I can't recall the number now, but I think it was in the $600-800 range – so maybe $1,200-$1,600 now?

Come to think of it, what if you're a Middle Eastern buyer who wants to do ED for a 2 Series. Why wouldn't BMW make that available to you regardless of where the car or SUV is manufactured? Just thinking out loud here.

Break-in procedures, shmake-in procedures. I was on a wide-open, nearly empty autobahn with my then-brand-spankin-new m235i. So, yes, I took it up to 130 mph. YOLO. Glad I did, as it's an experience that will likely never be repeated.

ED is now eliminated even for German-built BMWs, but, yes, vehicles built in North America/South Africa/etc. were not, are not and will never be shipped back to Munich for tourist delivery for North American customers.

I wonder if you can do Mexican Delivery. Could stop by the farmacia and then just drive it home to CA! Also, I know it won't, but please car gods let the M240i come with a B58 (probably) and manual option (probably not).

It's hard to say for sure, but my gut feeling is that it's slightly longer than the current car (maybe an inch or two?).

I have to admit that I'm interested in the car... even though I don't really want to be. I always figured I'd move on something else for my next car, as I've never bought two consecutive "same" model vehicles. The fact is, though, that I really like this formula of a small RWD 2+2 coupe with a great engine, and to a large extent BMW remains the only game in town. Waiting to see the what they do with the styling/ specs/colors... Ugh, stop me before I buy another one.

In 2002, I picked up a new 325 in Munich via ED and then spent the next month or so in Europe, mostly working. I did manage to get through the break-in period and then drove from Dusseldorf to Berlin and back, a few hundred miles each way, doing as much of it as I could at 200 k/h (125 mph), which I felt was the limit of my own competence. I shipped to car home after the month was up (in those days they threw in a month of insurance) and kept it for over a dozen years. Great car, great memories of driving at Autobahn speed.

I don't think it's clear to anyone here what that is. I choose to think that the spy pictures tell us more than these "elevator" snaps do.
