My roommate removed and proceeded to knock his unused tailgate cover in the garage, onto my trunk and bumper. So much for my accident free car.

Absolutely fuming.

Take photos. When it's time to sell you'll have documentation that the damage and subsequent repair was minor.

Replaced OEM manual fluid with Redline DCTF. Many folks (including them) had rec'd and not the standard grade. Solid difference. Also better for higher heats.

He might accidentally fall face first into the South Platte after accidentally tying bricks to his ankles is all I'm saying.

Really though, this dude is normally a good friend but he wants to avoid insurance and cheap out on the repair. It doesn't look like much but it's roughly $2k because the trunk isn't PDRable according to the main shop I use. This is the same person that also backed into my Nissan Z many years ago and had it fixed like ass. I certainly wont be using his suggestion of the "$200-guy in a van comes and fixes the paint in your driveway" suggestion.

Yeah, no. You should get insurance involved if he's not willing to have it fixed correctly. You'll just sit there and dwell on the rear end if it's not.

The rest of my carbon fiber and alcantara parts came in, so I was finally able to install everything together. I have a convertible, so finding the center kit took a bit of digging. Ended up ordering from bmwpartspro.com, which ended up being the m2 set.

Be warned about the carbon fiber set. It is like an 1/8th of an inch short at every edge, except at the bottom. I thought it was a defect at first, until I went to the dealer. The guy said he'd never noticed before, but was more than willing to look for a model with it. Then he takes me to this beautiful bmw m2 in sunset orange. (A little envious Of the color.) He allows me to touch around the car, and it felt exactly the same way. So, if you don't like the feel or look of edges on your trim, id avoid the carbon fiber set.(the Aluminum trim had a better fit in my opinion, and only looked slightly worse than the carbon fiber.)

I have m-inspired mirror housing kit coming next, so I can't wait to see how those go.

While the bumper is off it would be an excellent time to install a stealth hitch if you have any need for one for a bike or something. 5 min install if the car is already apart.

Do you have a picture of how it fit? I have an M240i coupe with the M diffuser - I'd love a hitch, once I don't have to hack up the diffuser.

Here are the installation instructions.

I didn’t have to cut anything.
Does the M diffuser you have on hang down
lower than the stock M240i one?
This model is for the M2 as well, so it
should be pretty straightforward.

Here's the install I was thinking of. Not stealth, Curt, but should give you a good idea. You may be OK without doing anything cute.

Here’s a pic with the hitch attached to the
receiver. There’s about 1/8 inch clearance
between the top of the hitch and the bottom
of the lower bumper trim.

New setup arrived. Joined the TR Motorsports C4 club. 17x8 with 245/40/r17 square R-S4’s
Five more HPDE events booked.

Update:

The steering feel is much better than the 235 19” I’ve had up front since buying the car. The LCA/monoball/GC plates upgrade is in the future for sure now.

These wheels have a purpose and I wasn’t thinking beauty contest when I bought them, but man, I love the way these look in 17” stock height. Fight me

Selling my 19” staggered Velos set and switching to 17’s all-seasons. Any suggestions on 17 wheels for daily use?

Thank you! I wonder if small wheels with beefy rubber will ever have their day again on cars in this segment... lots of cars on rubber-bands out there. I’ll admit, from certain angles the 17’s don’t work, but the arches of the 2-series don’t really flatter anything particularly well IMO.

Your roomate dropping someone on your car is just life getting you ready for the future. Once you live with kids your car is not safe in the garage OR the driveway OR parked on the street. You can park your car 2 blocks away somehow your kids will find it and scratch it, dent it, throw dirt on it, puke in it, pee in it, or do other ungodly things to a car.

Lol it's not the first time something like this has happened but disappointing all the same. That said, kids are not in my immediate future. Maybe in 7 or 8 years if I find somebody crazy enough to want to marry me. Decided to go through insurance, put in the claim this morning. Oh well.

Count me in the small segment of owners who love small wheels with beefy rubber! Setup looks great!
