I think they revised the design in the N20/N26. The B58 hasn't had those issues. I am hoping that I don't have any problems with mine as I don't really want to deal with it and I only have 3k miles of the extended warranty left. Ha ha. If I start to hear something weird I guess it will be time to pull the engine and do it myself.

This is not the same Timing chain set up as the new B58 engines. The new "B" engines having timing chains in the rear (near the bell housing area, or similar to some of the Audi's)
That being said Please note that this Timing chain Warranty Extension does not Apply to Canadian Vehicles. For What reason i do not know. I received an Email a little while back in regards to this. The warranty extension was made for USA vehicles and does not apply to Canadian cars...As for other countries such as the UK, Sweden, Poland ECT, i do not know that. The Problems with these Timing chains Are either: 1: Timing chains stretch and become noisy with excessive slapping/knocking type of noise 2: The Chain guides physically break which will result in a very loud noise if its still running... 3: The Oil pump sprocket wears on the Oil pump chain drive module and causes the Oil pump to make a loud whining noise that changes with RPM's. (from my experience - this is the main cause that i have came across, but have came across some broken guides as well) If your getting the repair done and its only Timing chains and guides being replaced the repair shouldn't take more than 2 days in the shop. If it is a X-Drive model car you should receive a free 4 wheel alignment due to the repair.

You will then see a list of reimbursable warranty items (in the event you had to pay upfront). While this isn't a 'does my car qualify' page it does give you a sense whether your car meets the cut-off date of affected cars based on production date. Above all, you should receive a letter like the OP assuming you purchased new or CPO from an authorized BMW dealer.

I've got mine, too. Coincidentally, I asked the service rep at the dealership whether Dinan upgrades would affect/void this extension and he said not if the Dinan stuff was done at a dealership.

I have seen some but they are few. On the 2015 builds its usually not the chains that ive seen fail tho its the gear that slides on the engine oil pump and crankshaft sprocket (if that makes sense) The gear it's self wears small grooves on the inside where it rides along the crankshaft part and beings to make a loud whining noise. The noise is fairly noticeable and changes with Engine RPM

Here's a link to the BMW TSB about timing chain problems in the N20 engine. It's for engines produced before 03/13 and since the warranty extension is for engines produced in 02/15 (I received a letter) they didn't solve the problem after 03/13.
This TSB for the X1, Z4 X3, 3 series ,and 5 Series ,but the standards must be the same for the 228i. https://bmwtechnician.com/2017/08/02...-bmw-bulletin/ |

Yup, mine was a February 2015 car as well, so you can throw in 4 series as well...(N26).

I never received a letter, but while at the dealership for maintenance last week I asked about it, and my SA confirmed my warranty is extended as well. Actually, there were several things he rattled off as having extended warranties over the 4yr/50K factory warranty. I have a 3/2014 build date.

I asked a shop foreman at Motorwerks BMW about the problems with the timing chain on the N20 engine. He said the ones that they saw were on engines using the BMW oil chain intervals. He recommended 5000 mile intervals to at least forestall the problem. He didn't guaranty this would eliminate it.
