Best case 1 week (possibly more depending on ship schedules) to get loaded on a ship and actually depart. 3 to 4 weeks of actual transit time to get to Port Hueneme. Then another week (best case) to clear customs and actually get trucked to your dealer. Best case you're probably looking at 5 weeks, realistically a little more. |

I am thinking about ordering so I appreciate this info! Looks like it took about a month to go build complete, then another 4-6 weeks to ship; so 2-2.5 months is about the lead time?

Exactly, there's no common timeline for that. It depends on what your dealer was slotted when you jumped on it.
Mine has been at that documented status for about 3 weeks now will likely stay that way for another 6-8 weeks since I chose to do mid-May ED. |

Mine was suppose to be built on 2/17 week, instead it got built 2/3 week. It finished 4 days after it started, and was shipped to Bremerhaven (1 day). Left port after about a week (2/17) and ship docked in Baltimore on 2/26. I expect it will now get to my dealer later this week or early next, as it currently marked "finishing touches". Total time 4 weeks!

They are real slow to update the web site. If you haven't yet, you might want to ask your CA for car status. Mine showed waiting for ship on bmwusa.com for weeks, and my CA confirmed it was already on a ship. They can also give you the ship name, so you can track the ship across the ocean.
Good Luck! |

Ship schedules are unpredictable. Cutoff times for accepting a car on a ship are generally a week before departure. Ships get full too sometimes since this is probably a Roro ship so space is limited. If by the luck of the draw you just miss a cutoff deadline expect the car to sit for 2 to 3 weeks until the next departure.

Mine only sat a day or two at port before getting on the Independence II!
My car finished production on 3/3, a few days awaiting transport, then a couple days transport to the port, then a few days at port awaiting a ship. It left port on 3/13. It's due in NY (NJ) on 3/26. My guy at BMW said to expect about 4 days at port, then 4 days at dealer for prep (which he can fast track), so I should be able to take delivery the first weekend in April (4/5)! So about one month between production end and delivery for me. So close now! I ordered on January 25, so about 10 weeks from order to delivery. |

So you were one of the lucky ones where the timing of everything was just right. You probably just made the cutoff for loading and departed soon after so that's as good as it can get. Most wouldn't be that quick!
