This product was made for the F30, but i thought hey, why not. It worked by going over an exiting port in the kidney grill shroud. In my car the port was sealed by a clip-on plastic cap. After removing the left kidney grill, I simply removed the cap and put the scope over it. The supplied bolt point did not line up with any hole on the plastic shroud. No worries, its plastic. by simple brute force method, it was installed.

I observed the intake temps via the P3 gauge. My ambient was 90F. while driving around, i was seeing anywhere from 92-95F. This compares well with the values prior to install, which were around 95-97F. In stand still traffic however a large difference was scene. Prior to install I would see my intake temps creep up to 110F, showing that hot air under the hood was being sucked in. After the install I saw no hotter than 98F. I would recommend this neat little mod.

So if that port was sealed by a cap in your car, where is the stock intake getting its air from? Just ambient air under the hood exclusively?

Also: is your car a 228/N20? (I have to ask since folks post N55 mods in this section all the time)

yes, the car had the port covered from factory. The stock intake was feeding from behind my left head light, but there was no direct path for outside air to get to it. You can see the opening of the inlet tube to the left of the scoop in the first pic I posted. To even see this, I had to remove the bumper. Since doing this mod my AIT dropped by 20F and more

Daaaaamn. Even on a stock motor this may be worth doing, particularly in a warmer climate. If anything, it'll mean a bit better mileage.

I just wonder why BMW decided to block that intake off on the F22/N20. Had to have been a reason compared to the F30. Better airflow into the engine around that headlight, maybe?

^ follow the DIY to take off ure kidney grill. Thats all there is to it. once the left sid eis off, take off the plastic cover from the port, measure & punch a hole in the plastic shroud and secure the scoop.
