Pre-LCI M240i 2017 -> 2018 LCI instrument cluster?

I can't stand the orange gauge cluster. It makes my fairly new car feel the same as my 2011 e92.

I recently saw my friend's 2018 m240i and at night it looks crispy and beautiful.

Has anybody done this? If so how much was the LCI instrument cluster and how easy was the install?

How much does programming it cost? I have bimmercode and bimmerlink with a vGate wifi adapter.

I saw, in another thread that I can't remember, someone who pulled the board behind the instruments and soldered in white LED's to replace the orange. There were 6 of them, and didn't look too difficult to pull off.

Can't help with LCI cluster. Guessing that would be more difficult to pull off?

Damn, are you able to find it by any chance?

Nvm after searching for a while, I found the post of the 2 series which followed the steps from this post.

I love the amber gauge cluster. So tired of whites and blues that are harsh on the eyes at night on other cars (VW is egregious). I only wish it was military green to look more like a cockpit.

If you do this, please let us know how it went. Before buying my car, I was searching for a 2018 and above to get this gauge cluster, but once I realized the "digital" part of the display didn't span the entire bottom portion (think of the LCI F30 extended display) and there was still that awkwardly placed rectangle, I figured it wasn't worth spending thousands more just to find a 2018 vs a 2017. No doubt would still like the white gauges, so I may try this out one of these days.

Also, sorry I just remembered this. A guy did it for his F87 and I can't see why it wouldn't be the same for our cars:

Honestly I didn't realize it wasn't digital when I purchased the car. I just assumed 2017 m240i was the full LCI lol ):

I'll keep y'all updated! I know it would require replace it with the new cluster + some in depth programming.

This can be done - one of my favorite mods.

The part # for the cluster is 62108713086 (I got mine from getbmwparts) and had steve@codemybimmer code it to my car remotely.

2017 was the mechanical LCI (N55 -> B58 engine, M235->M240 naming)
2018 was the cosmetic LCI (headlights, taillights, new colors, new interior trim shapes, new wheels)

Has the cluster worked out like you wanted? I absolutely want to do the same mod to my new-to-me '17 m240i

Can you give an update on the cluster? and maybe any pics? Thanks

Absolutely. IMO it looks much more refined/modern and have had it on the car for a year+ and no issues. A few things probably worth noting for someone considering this upgrade: 1) the cluster is tied to the process that BMW uses to update software modules in the car, so if a software update was attempted with the LCI cluster on the car, it would get flagged. Work around would be putting in the stock cluster for update related dealer maintenance or maybe a non-issue if you are out of warranty, and 2) the process is more complicated when attempting the upgrade with a used cluster. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info, another question,

How does one go about "coding" these BMWs. I had a STi for awhile and it required an access port which was a solid piece of hardware that plugged into the car and could also plug into a laptop to transfer "code" from one source to another.

What is required to "code" these 2-series BMWs?

Thanks

Has anyone tried reinstalling the old cluster after installing the LCI cluster? Does it recognize the old cluster again? Does odometer update? Does the coding for the LCI cluster cause the old cluster to have alerts or error messages?

You need an ENET cable which allows you to connect a laptop to your car via obd port. You can contact steve@codemybimmer and he can do the rest remotely.

I have not tried to put the old cluster back in the car but believe Steve mentioned it would not be an issue.

Thanks, way better than sending Cobb money just for the interface.

So I have had this done, wasn't necessarily easy but it is done and I am VERY pleased.

My pic is blurry but the display is crystal clear and this was in the daylight when my old dash would be totally dark.

I am definitely happy with it and if anyone has any questions about my install, justy ask.

Anyone know if this can be coded to show the M logo where the "1/min x1000" RPM is showing?

Neophyte - I believe the version with the M logo is just the M2 cluster.

All - I have a 2016 M235 with driver assist/lane departure. Does anyone know which part number the cluster would be for my car? I have seen many different part numbers and some clusters for sale on eBay from Europe... but I can't tell whether they differ in functionality and compatibility.

The only reason I want to do this is because 6 months after cleaning my gauge cluster, it's FULL of dust again. A shocking amount of dust behind the plastic cover when the sun hits it. It looks like I shoot a stream of dust through the trip reset button every time I get in the car.

I also don't want to pay $1,000+ to fix BMW's mistakes.
