BMW Canada will void my warranty

So I have a 2017 m240i 6MT and called up warranty to see if there are any repercussions for deleting the two resonators. The servicing manager said it will 100% void my warranty.

Then I proceeded to ask about installing the Dinan Midpipe and they said BMW doesn't work with Dinan anymore and Dinan parts will also void my warranty.

And then I asked about MPE exhaust and they said they don't have them for the 6MT for m240i. Only for automatic....

So now I'm confused about my exhaust upgrade options because I still have 40,000/2 years left on my warranty. And to be frank, the stock is very disappointing. So any advice guys?

Wow your dealer blows. Time to find a new dealership that's mod friendly.

I called both my BMW dealerships. They're all owned by Dilawri Auto Group in Canada. Must be a stanard policy with all the dealerships.
Really sucks man 😭

Deleting your resonators/adding a midpipe will void your warranty .... on the cat back exhaust system on nothing else (unless you damage something during the change) as i.e. an interior problem with the seats can not be traced back to a change in the exhaust.

feelsbad, do you think if I cut resonators and go for regular servicing they will notice and flag car? I was thinking worst case scenario if a random code pops up, I can chuck the two resonators back on and take in car for warranty work.

They could do that, but why would they? A) they make money on service/repairs (which include warranty work) and B) BMW wouldn't deny you warranty on i.e. an injector because you removed a resonator as you could drag them to court and win

I have a hard time believing that they void the warranty for removing the resonators. I've rolled into my Montreal dealers with my 335 with JB4, AFE air intake, KWv3s and UR DP and only recommended that I should ditch the AFE intake. They make too much money on warranty work to gripe about resonators.

Tell them I'd be happy to show my 2018 M240i's order indicating my factory installed MPE with 6spd.

I can't speak for Canada but here in the US, dealers can't void anything, only the manufacturer meaning BMW North America/Canada/USA whatever can restrict or void a warranty. Dealers can inform a manufacturer of a modification and the manufacturer will decide what's restricted/voided or other, not the dealer.

I had zero issues at Calgary BMW running my car through there with Jb4 on map 2 and catless downpipes. Never had my warranty voided and I did it for 2 years straight. I didn't go in there advertising that I had modified my car, but the techs aren't going to rat you out for modifying your exhaust. There is zero chance BMW NA will void your powertrain warranty for aftermarket exhaust.

Word eh. Maybe I'll delete the res then. The rep on the phone was probably just trying to cover his ass over the phone.

Exhaust is just a sound mod, there is no impact on the longevity of the powertrain.

They're just trying to scare you in my opinion. they cannot void your warranty unless your mod caused the damage which the warranty work is being done on.

Thanks man! Should I delete the two resonators or muffler? What do you suggest?

Its a personal preference. Im not a fan of muffler delete, it causes drone.

I would rather install REMUS exhaust for a better sounding exhaust.

Budds BMW in oakville is a Dinan dealer. Had a Dinan midpipe and muffler installed with them and have never had warranty issues at Pfaff where I regularly service my car.

Too bad he's in Calgary; sounds like the mod-friendly dealer choices are more limited up there.

I personally think Muffler delete is way more aggressive than any aftermarket exhaust can try to sound, but there can be a drone at certain RPM's.

Muffler delete is also a much cheaper option than a 1k+ exhaust
