One thing the gran coupe will have over the regular coupe is a seatbelt easily reached by the front seat passengers. The blue render is very nice. The red render is looking a tiny bit granturismo-ish with the bulky rear...
Cheers! |

Replacement for my...
E36 M3 4 door. Yes, I'm a geezer with a 16 year old car that still goes like stink on the track. 4 doors are nice since you can just throw your kids or track wheels into the back seat. I wonder if they'll be able to keep the weight south of 3400 lbs. Then it will only weigh 300 more lbs than my car. I also hope they come up with a clean nose. the flutes in the 1M series front spoiler bug me.

Count me in. The F30 is too large and too gadget laden and the A3 and CLA are too fwd oriented. BMW really did get caught way behind on this one, but it's nice to see they're at least making an effort to catch up.
Oh, and please let some of the Oppenheimers at BMW NA know that if this shows up with standard awd and/or automatics only I will be the responsible party when their headquarters burns down. |

So this means no M2 GC until at least 2016 or maybe 2017
was hoping to get that when my 335 lease is up in Oct 2015. I don't want to pay $75K for an M3 Sedan and don't want to get another 335 (like to change it up) so the M2 GC would have been perfect. Might have to lease a 4 series GC (non M) although it is a little big for my needs. Its intereting how Mercedes releases their AMGs pretty much at the same time as the regular versions. Audi does take a year or two for their RS versions though (S versions are released about the same time but those are like M Sports...) |

BMW certainly doesn't mind taking their sweet time. Don't get me wrong - I want things to be done right, but they seem to be WAY behind the competition. Perhaps that's the idea though - to release in between the competition's generations so that they are the newest thing on the road for a while.

What happens in 7 years or so when the 2 series grows to the size of the e90. They'll run out of numbers to fill the gaps unless the 1 series becomes the new 2 series and the 1 becomes what 0 series or -1 series?

I just pray that these renders showing the headlights of these 2's NOT flowing into the grill (as per the 3er) are correct.

So BMW has, as a brand, become too upscale and I'm glad to see them get back to their roots with a small, fun, agile, light, fast, rwd saloon.
Today's 3 series is much like the 5 series used to be. The current 5 is like the 7 used to be, while the current 7 is just a boat. With the new 2 series coupe and GC, its nice to see BMW get back to what they're best at and what the enthusiasts love. The 2 coupe and GC will essentially be the spiritual successor to the 3 series coupe and saloon. I honestly cannot wait for this! The only thing I fear is that the new cars will grow even more and move even further upmarket, creating the need for a new series smaller than a 1. What, a .75 series? Sigh. BMW needs to rip a page from Mazda's book. When making the new miata, they made sure that it wouldn't have any more grip than the previous generation. More/bigger isn't always better, BMW. Thanks Scott. That is extemely dissapointing. I am not sure how this is considered "fast track" For us in the US, 2015 Calendar German launch means we won't see the car until Spring / Summer 2015 as a MY2016 I am guessing now that the M2 GC won't happen for another year after that so now we are talking MY 2017 for that car.. How does it even make sense? Those cars are derived from the current F20/F21 architecture, yet by the time they arrive, the will be based on a car that will be 5-6 years old by then. That's like launching the new M3/M4 6 years into the new 3/4 series life cycle. Pretty lame if you ask me. I am one of those people who were willing to order an M2 GC sight unseen before even seeing a prototype. But I can't wait that long. Audi S3 here I come |

The CLA is FWD (as far as I understand) so a RWD BMW in the same segment will definitely appeal to hard-core RWD buyers...
One other thing I don't like about the CLA... The navigation looks like a total after-thought, like someone poped a Tom-Tom on the dash... Please, BMW, make the 2er dash look something similar to all of the other cars and we'll be on track to order me an Alpine White (or Imola Red if available, probably not) 2017 M2 loaded to the roof in options...
