I won't even mention any HP advantage figures cause those require higher RPM to access. It's this extra torque that makes this motor much more fun around town.
I can't tell you how many suburban mothers I've known who lived off of and depended upon the off-the-line performance of their SUVs and minivans during the last-minute ferrying of their kids to school in the morning.

The part where the locals pulled them over and wrote them up (while still in their bathrobes!)...well, that enraged them, and they then went on to vote against any and all increases in their towns' public safety budgets. Their husbands, as you might imagine, voted the other way.

Approaching the issue as a car guy, I admit that my attempts to make any sense of all of that with those estimable ladies always fell on deaf ears!

The 240 folks will tell you its much better, not even close etc. Its slightly better.

I switched out my Downpipe and the torque is real close, and that was way cheaper then buying the 240 (at the time)

Again, buy what you can afford, both great engines and cars.

Yeah I'm in Pa and don't want to do a downpipe swap yearly for emissions lol. I'm in a BMW group and the consensus is that the B58 is the way to go so I'm actually set out on that. Problem I have now is finding a decent used one lol. If anyone has any leads in the Philly area definitely let me know

My AA downpipe pulls no CEL/no emissions and my whp is 321, with only chargepipe switch. Again, its slightly better, and will depend on $$. Been checked on 2 different, no tune.

I saved almost $7k on a 16' 235 vs 17' 240i manual (at the time, 16' was at 3 year lease term, typically less) with similar mileage and both CPO.

Fabspeed DP also pulls no CEL. The "consensus" is the B58 is slightly better, but as my 1st post stated, it depends on $$, both great engines.

from my first post: Its always an option of how much $$ you have to spend, and sounds like you have plenty for the 240i. (saves a few bucks on replacing 235i chargepipe too)

and if $$ not in decision go M2, otherwise it still depends on $$...its not B58 regardless of price difference. Good luck with search.

Figured I'd update the post. Found a M240i AWD Auto, everything included for 29k with 46k on the clock. Really found a steal since I was just about to pull the trigger on an M235. Much love for all the help guys, made me a happy fellow.

Last post! Bought the M240i! Quite the change from my 320, absolutely love it. Already put a Stage 1 tune on it and it absolutely rips. Ngl, it's definitely way more than I'd ever need with a daily but my smiles per mile just shot through the roof. Cheers guys, thanks again for all the input.

I've had a 09 335, a 15 M235xi and now a 17 M240xi, each car was and is great. The M235 was better then the 335 and the M240 is better then the 235, by how much, tough to tell. My opinion, all achieve great performance with bolt ons and stage 2 type of tuning but the B58 is so simple and the intake/intercooler design to me is a notch above the N54 and N55 set ups, my opinion.

M235i <M240<M2

WOW do I love my M235i with Wagner Catted and BM3 Stage 1 FBO.

The sound and Performance is so smooth and has enhanced the factory platform.

However, a 240i with the Same Mods would be at a higher level. I would say with the FBO Mods to the M235i = to or maybe a tad better than that of an untuned M240i.

.
The OG M2 is simply a step above both -- yes even with the N55 --- IMO

I went from a 328i to a (slower) Lexus IS, then to an M240i.

I also drove a base 230i and then a 230i M Sport. I was surprised what a massive difference that was, and then M240i was even more a different animal. Same color config as you!

Congrats on the purchase.
