Exhaust flap 230i

Does the 230i have an exhaust flap, and if so does removing it make it sound better? If so how do I remove/get the flap to stay open? Is there any downsides to doing this?

It does. Downside is more exhaust / more emissions
Put into sport+ and drive. That's the sound with flap open.
Better sound can be achieved with exhaust mods like mp or dinan exhausts or fiddling with resonator or downpipe. Another option is bootmod3. Both sound and performance upgrade ( and you do get exhaust burble settings).

You can also remove the spring in the valve and lock it into open. You can see it if you look under the car. This way the ECU still sees the valve connected and working so you will never get any error codes.

There's a cable connecting the actuator.

I'm going to be honest, i dont know if i can tell a difference in the exhaust in Sport+ vs Comfort. Maybe i'm expecting too much of a change?

Also does anyone have any recommendations for a relatively inexpensive axelback for a 2020 230i coupe?

We need to define inexpensive. Doubt I would go there with my precious F22. If you mean reasonable, I like the Dinan free flow exhaust on sale now for under $900. I have been very pleased with the added performance and improved sound.
