2017 230ix

just purchased a jet black 230ix, looking for a trunk lid spoiler that can take a auto car wash if one exists. I do a lot of hand washing but unfortunately in the northeast a car wash is a necessary evil at times. Do any of the 3m mounted spoilers work with the auto wash?

The issue is not the spoiler. Adhesives have certain ranges of tolerance for surface prep, surface temperature, amount and duration of pressure for application. Many have been ok with just using 3M tape but others report loosening. BMW recommends their own adhesive product called BetaLink (sold in a tube) that is far more secure than tape alone. It is what holds my MPerformance spoiler very securely on the deck lid. Once you pick the spoiler design you prefer, BetaLink will hold it in place.

Use 3m adhesive accelerant.

Thanks guys, looking for a subtle lip, nothing to large as it currently has no other mods (2017 year) Any suggestions for the trunk lip that fits correctly? Appreciate the advice on the adhesive issue.

One man's "subtle" is the other's "invisible". The original one with the MSport package from BMW is quite "subtle" to me, so I chose the BMW MPerformance instead which I think balances with the overall car proportions. Note the upward profile symmetry with the drop of the decklid rear edge. As an original BMW part, the fit is excellent of course.

I do like that. Would I be able to buy it already painted Jet Black or is carbon fiber or unpainted my choices?

You'll have to get it painted as it comes with primer only.

really dumb question and I hate to ask but would I paint over the carbon fiber or would that go with my jet black car? Or, is there a primer version? For instance, yours (sportstick) isn't cf right?

Actually mine was CF underneath. I think there are non-CF plastic versions. I looked at the CF and decided I liked monochromatic better and had the shop paint it. Depending on what you do with mirror caps, maybe the grille, you could develop a CF theme if you like that look. For me, that kind of contrast makes it look "stuck on" versus an integrated design approach, but others like it.
