Which sounds better??? M235i Vs M240i
Hi everyone.
I just recently purchased an M240i LCI MG (67 Plate - UK) and just can’t help thinking my old M235i sounded better? Now I’m talking especially on the high end of the rev range (5K RPM and up). It feels like the M235i just had that louder “Growl” or “Raw” where as the M240i has the same sound throughout... just gets a bit louder. Does anyone agree with this who has driven both N55 & B58 models? |

I test drove an M235 and ASD drove me nuts, but the ASD M240 in which I ordered was much more subtle; there wasn't that much of a difference when I disabled it. If you're basing your statement on what you hear inside the car, I suspect the ASD is the reason.

Coming from a S65 V8 NA motor in an M3 to these 2 series cars.... ugh. I guess I was spoiled at the way that S65 could sing its beautiful song all the way up past 8K RPM. I really do miss that engine and exhaust sound. My 240i can't even hold a candle to that sound. No combination of exhausts and or DP's or resonators I've heard can make this car sound right. And no,... louder and/or more burbles is not right.

Sorry yes, I meant from inside the car. So is ASD more prominent in the M235i, that may explain it. Can the settings be adjusted yourself, or have to be coded? |

On my M235, ASD can be coded on or off. No other adjustments that I’m aware of. I had mine off for a while, but turned it back on recently because the car was too quiet and that’s easier than getting an exhaust.

You have the diagram but that's what I heard too - that the M235i only has one resonator while the M240i has two so it reduces the sound even more.
Personally, if I ever want to make the car louder (240), I'd opt to pay a shop ~$200 max to cut out both resonators and replace them with stainless steel piping than pay ~$1,000+ for just a muffler. |

No turbo car can sound as good as high winding NA motors.

https://www.dinancars.com/products/e...arts/D660-0068 This was the best $500 I spent for my car. It sounds very good with this mid pipe. |
